    Leap Year Mead 2

Well, finally racked and bottled the leap year mead yesterday. Decided to let it sit on its lees for the last 6 months or so. As a result, the scraped vanilla bean I originally left in there had soaked up so much fluid it resembled something more like a banana peel. :P The mead smells...

    Leap Year Mead 2

I'm not in any hurry to get it off the yeast either. I should really look up my notes of which yeast I used to find out whether or not this is a good idea.... It's still got a lot of clearing to go by the look of it. I guess we can let it sit on the beans in secondary for quite some time? I've...

    Leap Year Mead 2

How is everyone's L.Y.M going anyways? Mine is still managing a bubble every hour or so, and it smells awesome. Haven't had a taste or measure yet, gonna probably test this weekend. When are people planning to go to secondary? I'm looking forward to throwing some vanilla beans in...

How Many Gallons of Leap Year Mead Have Been Made?

+ 3 = 56 Well, roughly three. 12 litres actually here in Oz. 3.7 Litres per gallon I think? When I say Oz I mean Australia, I don't mean I'm brewing mead in some godforsaken prison...

    Leap Year Mead 2

Heh, yeah I guess. I originally didn't even know how it could be done - knowing nearly nothing about mead - but with a bit of advice and interest from everyone, it's taken off! :ban:

    Leap Year Mead 2

4kgs honey, 12 litres of water, yeast and some stiff arms from frantic shaking! Initial gravity of 1.110, bubbling within hours - and a few days later my cupboard now smells fantastic... Good luck everyone!

    Leap Year Mead?

Pasteur champagne yeast sounds good to me. I guess we'll all be using different local honey anyway, so that should get some really interesting different results. I think BigKahuna's recipe sounds great, leaves it nice and simple, and also open for extra ingredients at secondary if anyone...

    Leap Year Mead?

I'm planning to do a couple of batches I think. (Especially now that I've learned how well honey keeps!) I've got a couple of 10L barrels, so I might try something simple and something a bit more fun too. I've got a good quantity of Orange Blossom honey from a local farm that I'm told should be...

    Leap Year Mead?

Hi all, I've only been brewing cider until now, but am keen to try my hand at mead. Purely as a novelty thing, I was hoping to start one off on Feb 29th. But I'm not sure, I know mead takes a good year to properly develop - but how long will it actually keep? Does mead turn bad after a...

    Stuck fermentation?

Wow, back to 1.000 SG already... I'm a bit surprised, but it's great news. Not sure it's such a good thing that it fermented so quickly, but we'll see how it goes in the next stage. Thanks!

    Stuck fermentation?

Hi everyone, I've spent the last few days sifting through all the interesting stuff on here, and figured it was time to say Hi. :D I also figured I may as well start with a question - I've currently got a 20L barrel of cider on the go. I started it off three days ago, mixing cloudy juice...
