I'm new at this too, but I think one of the reasons you got so much gunk in the blowoff tube is because your carboy seems a bit small. The krausen doesn't have anywhere to go. I doubt it'll affect the end result however. Brew on!
That's good advice, and would make me somewhat less upset that I just ruined my freezer.
But I've learned a lesson here, and it's don't drill through the side of my freezer. That's why I'm going to build a collar!
Consensus seems to be here is that labels are a cool idea, but quickly become a PITA when you have to remove them. Most people use stickers on the bottle cap or write on the bottle cap itself, since you are not going to reuse it.
