    Fermenting Cabinet on the shelf

Nice. I like how you reused the door.

    What are you drinking now?

Right now ... Sierra Nevada Glissade Golden Bock. I don't like it as much as the other day's ... Anchor Bock Beer.

    Mash Tun Manifold overengineered?

Ah ... I see now. I like the lower profile of the latter one (post #10).

    Crossing yeast strains

I would have thought Yeast were only asexual. However I did a google search for 'yeast mitosis meiosis' and found a lot of hits. Like these: "Using Saccharomyces cerevisiae to study cell cycle genes in meiosis" Anne Galbraith, Dept of Biology, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse...

    Mash Tun Manifold overengineered?

It will certianly work as is. But I thought I'd suggest changing the orientation by 90 degrees. The Tees in the picture are on the long length of the cooler. I would put the Tees along the short length of the cooler, only to simplify construction and cleaning. Just a thought. Have fun.

    BPA hazard a myth?

I'll accept that BPA can be very dangerous, however so can beer. By the way. Our earthquake weather is fine today. ;)

    Did i screw up?

A side note. You may have a poor seal on your fermenter. This would account for no bubbling during fermentation. Not a big deal though. I just like to watch the bubbles.

    1st All-Grain - Disaster?

If the color of the liquid is red it is not mercury. I believe red ones are called Alcohol Thermometers. Who knows what type of alcohol.

    Including something in the bottle...

I've never done this, or made mead for that matter, but cranberries might fit through the opening nicely. Sounds like fun.

    Hello men

If your kit does not come with a book, I would be sure to get one. Maybe its just me, but I often find myself away from my computer thinking about brewing. In the mean time here's a free on-line book. www.howtobrew.com

    Economical Immersion Chillers??

I was siphoning out of a 10 gallon pot with the first one I built. I built it with extra long tubing coming out of one side and bent this into a "hook", that went up over the top and down into the pot. That's one reason there was not a lot of height. It was not the best setup, but my 10 gallon...

    Cracked Erlenmeyer Flask

Yeah, you are both right. Nobody does this for glassware, hence that is why I used "for optimal safety" and I don't know the value for X. X would depend on too many factors for the variation our community of brewers. The idea is still useful without a definite value for X, IMO. I plan to...

    Economical Immersion Chillers??

There is a trade off here. The smaller the diameter, the greater the surface area to volume ratio; hence greater heat extraction. However, the smaller the diameter the slower the fluid will flow for a given source pressure (gravity or pump). Another trade off is cost vs. length. The longer...

    Cracked Erlenmeyer Flask

A microwave is a good idea ... probably the best come to think of it. For open flame, in the chemistry lab where I worked, a 4" X 4" steel wire mesh was used to set the flask upon, above the flame by 3 to 4 inches. This spread out the hot gas flow and provided a large even heat source. The...
