    Mash now, boil later?

I appreciate the responses. It does seem as though it is a sooner-the-better type scenario, which makes sense. This would not be a regular process for me, especially since I typically do a brew, set-up to clean-up, in about 4.5 hrs. However, this weekend may present itself with this needing...

    Mash now, boil later?

My question is in regard to mashing/sparging, then setting the wort in a sanitized/sealed container, with the intent of doing the boil a few hours later. There seems to be a fair amount of information out there in regard to mashing at night, and then boiling the next morning, but I am interested...

    WLP005; No Activity!

Valid points; thanks. I will probably embrace the starters for a while, for all gravities, and see what happens. I just recently used dry yeast for the first time (Safale-05), so I did one as dual purpose (starter/rehydration). I have read great things about it, so I am hoping it lives up to...

    WLP005; No Activity!

I appreciate all of the guidance here. To LovesIPA, thankfully I am not going to have to repitch. It took a few days, but I have finally begun to see some activity. To kh54s10, I have done a lot of starters, but I have not taken to the idea of doing a starter for every beer, regardless of...

    WLP005; No Activity!

I would say "was no activity". My schedule allowed me to check on it frequently. Yup, I will certainly be checking the gravity, but I was hoping to not open the fermenter too many times. Any thoughts on my re-pitching question?

    WLP005; No Activity!

I hate to sound like just another home brewer prematurely panicking here, but I am looking for some sage advice. Brewed a brown (starting gravity was 1.055). I pitched WLP005 at 72*, and the fermenter has been hanging out at 67*. However, 2 days later there is no activity. Part of my concern...

    Corny Ball Lock Faucet

Cool. Seems like this is a good piece of equipment; just have to make a few adjustments for it. Thanks again guys!

    Corny Ball Lock Faucet

Dr Hops, That is encouraging that you have had success with it for a while. As a follow-up question though, if your keg does not kick when you bring it somewhere, do you have any issues re-carbing, or just throw it back on a higher pressure for a few days?

    Corny Ball Lock Faucet

Doc, I have had the same concern. Obviously a faucet would present a little nicer, as I am sure many people who bring home brew to dressier functions would understand. The good old trash can, ice & picnic certainly get us by, but I am trying to get a little creative. Not excessive, just nicer...

    Corny Ball Lock Faucet

Carluchi, I like your idea about the mixer rods. I haven't used them before, but it seems like it would be a logical application for them. Thanks.

    Corny Ball Lock Faucet

I am working on my portable 5-gallon corny setup, and came across the tap faucet that attaches directly to a ball-lock quick-connect. This is basically eliminating a picnic tap. Anyone ever use one of these? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003ZZRR3K/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 I have read...

Single or Double Gauge Co2 Regulator?

I have a double-gauge on my home set-up, but am piecing together a 20oz cylinder for bringing cornies to cookouts, camping, etc. I was curious what you guys recommend; is the double worth the extra price? Part of my dilemma is that from reading other people's postings, it seems as though the...

If CO2 runs out, how long is beer OK?

Thanks folks! I was hoping that it would be fine as long as I did not continue to dispense from the tap. I do try to check my CO2 status on a regular basis though. It is quite easy since I have mounted the cylinder outside the chest freezer, and up at eye-level. Thanks again!

If CO2 runs out, how long is beer OK?

I have a single 10# cylinder dispensing multiple kegs. If all of the kegs are already carb'd, what is the time frame that I would have to get my CO2 replenished when it runs out/low? Also, I would assume that length of time would be shortened if there are kegs still carbing. Thanks in...

How much wort can yeast handle?

Thanks for the replies. For the sake of convenience, I have been using the vials. Kealia, I like that yeast calculator! I will have to experiment a bit more to make sure I am pitching the correct volume. Thank you again.
