    Must have salts/acids?

Hello All, I am also a relatively new brewer, just starting on my 19th batch. In my last 7 or 8 brews I have started making water adjustments. I have been using the water and mash screens off of the BeerSmith3 program. In your opinions, how does the BeerSmith3 program compare to the Bru-n-water...

    Corny keg oxygen purge

Quick update and of course, more questions! Everything went well on the first try of racking to a keg. Very pleased. - Initial cleaning of the keg with PBW and triple rinse (I bought a Kegland Bucket Blaster and it is awesome). - Closed fill of the keg with StarSan using Bassman2003 sequence -...

    Corny keg oxygen purge

Thank you again. I do like the idea of a wet run to practice. I am comfortable with the racking cane as I have been using that for my transfers into my bottling bucket with the priming sugar addition, but I want to see how the QD pin depression, liquid flow step best works. I use my lovely...

    Corny keg oxygen purge

Very good, I appreciate the input! I may be overworking this a bit for my first keg transfer, but I figure I might as well learn the best method first rather than learning through trial and error. That is why I subscribed and support HBT. These forum discussions, along with Palmer's How To Brew...

    Corny keg oxygen purge

Mr. Lizard Sir and other contributors; this is all very timely as I am going to rack my first brew into a keg tomorrow rather than bottling. My beer is in a fermentation bucket without a spigot. I like your methodology listed out above, it seems straight forward and effective. I know this is...

    Favorite Lager Yeast

Hey another question for you since you have brewed this recipe with the yeast I am using W-34/70. About how long did you leave it in fermentation before lagering and did you do a diacetly rest? My last brew a Czech Pilsner I left in fermentation for three weeks. I am doing my initial...

    Favorite Lager Yeast

Wow! I see what you mean about W34-70! 24 hours into fermentation at 54F and it is rocking!

    Favorite Lager Yeast

Thank you I will definitely try Diamond Lager next brew. I am partial to Pilsners, I have a Czech Bohemian Pilsner brewed with S-23 on it's 4th week of lagering, and now the German Pils fermenting with W-34/70. Next batch I will use Diamond Lager yeast. I may even do a split batch and compare...

    Favorite Lager Yeast

Thanks all for the information. I finished the brew yesterday and went with W-34/70 for a couple of reasons. First it was the recommended yeast in the original Cat's Tits recipe. As I do with cooking, I tend to follow a recipe exactly for the first try and then start to modify it. Also, I keep...

    Favorite Lager Yeast

I would appreciate some input on the best lager yeast for my next brew. I am brewing a German Pilsner recipe tomorrow that I picked up from Homebrew Talk, the "Cat's Tits" Pilsner: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/threads/cats-bitburger-premium-pilsner.100625/ If you don't care to open that thread...

Thoughts/input for a newbie getting into the hobby

I am also a new brewer (7th and 8th batches are lagering and bottle conditioning respectively). I strongly second the suggestion to get Palmer's How To Brew book. You don't sit down and read it end to end, I use it as a reference as I prep and on brew day. Chapter 11 "How to Brew Lager Beer" was...

    Lager Fermentation

I am also a newer brewer with Batch #7, my first lager a Czech Pils currently in diacetly rest. I wanted to add my two cents on the post above recommending John Palmer's "How To Brew". It is excellent, as technical as you want but you don't have to dive into the science if that does not interest...

German Pils Cat's **** "Bitburger" - Premium Pilsner

Excellent thanks for the reply! I plan on doing the original recipe and then I will ask my local brewing supply which german yeast they recommend. Not knowing any better I would guess SafLager™ W-34/70 but I will ask. I have a Czech Pilsner fermenting at the moment, actually in the diacetyl rest...

German Pils Cat's **** "Bitburger" - Premium Pilsner

RTSTRIDER, I am a huge Bitburger fan and now that I have started brewing lagers I am eager to try this one. My question is which recipe did you use? The original one from back in 2009 or one of the many modifications in the 130 replies? If you could share I would be most appreciative!

    Rinsing Sanitizer with Distilled Water

Thanks, I got a bit impatient when I was sanitizing the bottles and also did not have a bottle rack. With one it will be much easier to sanitize and drain naturally.
