    Glacier/ El Dorado combo??

Cherry flavors you say? Interesting! Glacier is kind of a British/American hybrid, good earthiness mixed with light citrus and a soft bittering aspect, also many acids that contribute to aroma. Surly Bitter Brewer uses toasty malts with Glacier hops and describes it as "toast with marmalade"...

    Glacier/ El Dorado combo??

Hey everyone! So I've been neglecting my brewing lately, but I finally ordered a kit from Northern Brewer (smash kit). But instead of using the given hops, I wanted to try out El Dorado and Glacier together. I am familiar with Glacier after using it in the Surly Bitter Brewer recipe, and I love...

first time adding fruit to a recipe, couple questions.

I've never used fruit puree but I have used fresh fruit before. I'm not experienced enough with it to answer all of your questions, but fruit sugars will typically ferment fully and leave you with a very dry beer. I would imagine that the bitterness wouldn't be greatly affected. The beer I made...

    WLP653 + Motueka / Galaxy

I'm not sure about the recipe, but I can tell you that Galaxy is a pretty amazing hop. Lots of bright mango and tropical fruit notes, some citrus. One of my new favorites.

    Terminology and ingredient questions.

http://www.ebook3000.com/The-Complete-Joy-of-Homebrewing-Third-Edition_21530.html Charlie Papazian has written a book that has helped a many new home brewers. He is able to explain pretty much all of your questions in a way that is easy to read and makes sense.

    Mango IPA

Interestingly enough I've just gotten done making two completely different beers, but one used galaxy for dry hopping, and the other experimented with fresh fruit. I made a blonde ale and used 6lbs of home grown peaches that were frozen. It had a really strong second fermentation, and the...

    Ceramic bottles

I know of people in a ceramics lab that I attend who make tall skinny ceramic bottles with a grolsch style cap on them. They turn out really cool!

    Imperial Blonde Ale questions!

I wouldn't mind trying something like Crystal or Hersbrucker for a more noble aroma and flavor. I really like how a recent beer turned out with Columbus as flavoring and bittering, not quite as much citrus.

    Imperial Blonde Ale questions!

It did turn out incredibly citrusy with those centennials. At first taste I instantly thought orange juice:cross: But the citrus character did mellow out. It wasn't my favorite attempt, but I feel as though I simply don't care for pure citrus bombs. If I were to make this again I would probably...

    Your Favorite Underappreciated Hops

+1 on the Glacier! A really amazing hop that moves well between american and english beers.

Any thoughts on my recipe for a black ipa?

I recently just made one that is tasting very good out of the secondary. I kept the grain bill fairly simple: 9.5# Marris Otter 1# crystal 60l 1# flaked oats .5# sugar .25# Carafa III Then with 15 minutes left in my boil I added about a half gallon of water that had 8 oz of chocolate malt cold...

    Legacy Hops

I thought I would enjoy the blackcurrant flavor that this hop has, but it just wasn't for me. I felt like it accentuated the residual sweet flavor of some beers. Could be that it is great for certain styles but I haven't tried them yet.
