    Citrus IPA

Hello Brew Community, I am going to be brewing my 1st IPA. I LOVE IPA's and decided it's time. My starting point is a a Pliny the Elder clone kit from Austin Homebrew. My goal is not to get as close the real Pliny as possible, but I thought a Pliny clone kit would be a good start, since...

    Don't use vanilla bean skin?

Making a vanilla sweet stout and the guy at the LHBS said not to put the skin of the vanilla bean in when I'm soaking. He said it gives the beer a acidic flavor. But I've never heard that before and don't see any posting on it in the forum. Anyone have experience with this? Would you...

    Great Dry Sparkling Cider

How would you make a starter for this cider? I wouldn't want to use DME since I don't want to impart a beer flavor. But Palmer says not to make a stater with simple sugars. So couldn't make the starter from apple juice or anything thing. Thoughts? .......maybe just use 2 vials be to sure?

    Two yeast packs in starter?

Hey all, MrMalty says that i need 2 yeast packs for my next brew with my stater. (brewing a high grav Belgian) My question: Is two yeast packs too much in my 1lt flask? Worried about too much yeast in a smaller flask to reproduce properly. Should I just put one pack in the stater, and...

    Need some advice....

It was a partial mash kit from my LHBS. Didn't give lots of specifics of amounts, just what it contained: Pale and Wheat malt extract. Crystal and Carafa malts High alfa Columbus hops Nottingham Ale yeast

    Need some advice....

So let's say I take a hydro reading again in a week or two and it's still the same....or it's changed a little, but still nowhere near my TG. Could I re-pitch at that point? Any down side to re-pitching and giving it a little extra time (besides the small extra cost of yeast)?

    Need some advice....

Ok, so I know I'm just yet another newbie brewer worrying about stalled fermentation. BUT, I would really appreciate some advice.......or maybe I just need someone to talk me down:) Brewing an Imperial Red OG of 1.058. Brewed and pitched Saturday afternoon (1 packet of dry yeast...

    Imperial Red Question

Ok, so I have all high alfa Columbus Hops. And here is the schedule/amounts: Boiling Hops (60 minutes) = about 1.5 oz Flavor Hops (30 minutes) = about 1 oz Finishing Hops (last 5 minutes or less) = about 2 oz The scale I'm using to measure the amounts of hops that came in the kit is...

    Imperial Red Question

I have 60 minute hops, 30 minute hops and finishing hops. And it is a partial mash. Is my logic correct that adding less 60 minute hops (and just adding them in with the 30 minute hops) would reduce the bitterness? ........not that I 100% want to reduce the bitterness. Hoping to hear from...

    Imperial Red Question

I am brewing an Imperial Red Ale kit from by local brew store for some holiday parties this year. I have never actually had an Imperial Red before, but it sounded good to me. BUT, I know IPA's can be a little too bitter for the Non-true beer drinker and I'm worried about this Imperial Red...

    Lose Yeast In Seconday?

Hey guys, noob here (LOVING this site and the new hobby!). Had a question on secondary and yeast. Saw some posts mentioning that racking in a secondary cleans up your beer by getting it away from the yeast and other stuff at the bottom of the bucket. My question is that if you rack to a...
