    Tinplate containers

Can anyone think of a reason not to use tinplate cans, like the cans of popcorn you sometimes get for Christmas. I've seen them in 6.5gal size with lids. Tinplate is used in cookware and thinness would work to my benefit if I use surface mounted silicone heaters wrapped around the outside. Thoughts?

New to Electric, a few questions on 110v only setup

I haven't committed to buying any of the controller or probes yet. So if by electrically similar you mean the same hardware, then yes I'd be buying the same probe hardware for each vessel. If there is an offset, I'd be more concerned with calibrating to the mash tun anyway. A brew kettle probe...

New to Electric, a few questions on 110v only setup

would it be possible to control two elements and two probes with a single dspr120? If you have a two vessel system with a probe and element in each, could you switch between the two with a multi-pole switch (a 3PDT or 4PDT switch)?

    Yeast counting stuff

Heads up, that hemocytometer doesn't look like it comes with it's own coverslip. They you specifically made coverslips as the cell count is dependent on volume drawn by capillary action into the space under the coverslip and on the counting grid. The correct coverslips are thicker/heavier than...

    ISO corny keg in CT/NY

NY-side of CT (Brewster/Danbury). Looking for a 5gal corny. Doesn't need to hold pressure or look nice. Happy to take off your hands if there are no dents, e.g. missing lid, busted/peeling/missing rubber handles/boots.

    Malt pipe ideas....

any progress on this? I was thinking of making a tall narrow mash tun with some stainless steel 9inch flue pipe. They sell caps that slip over one end and I was thinking of silver-soldering it on. BAM! instant mash pipe, punch holes for fittings as needed.

    Anyone use these two elements?

I've been doing more thinking about whick 1500w elements to use and am debating between two options. I'd appreciate your input to either trash one or both ideas. And before anyone says it, I know, I can get a 1500w screw in water heater element. For the sake of argument lets say vessel shape...

    Hobart Boil Kettle

Guys, so I've been doing more thinking and am debating between two options. I'd appreciate your input to either trash one or both ideas. Idea #1: @ $45 use this McMaster element http://www.mcmaster.com/#3540k43/=112epf4 it's 1500 watt so it suits my needs, incoloy and has a bend radius of...

    Hobart Boil Kettle

I found these spa elements too, but they don't include info on watt density http://www.hydropool.com/cgi-bin/hydro/item/Spa-Parts/Heater-Element-Flo-Thru-Single-Bend-15-kW-120V-438Long/25-0469.html and...

    Hobart Boil Kettle

I think I'll have to give up the idea of a specialized element shape. I did find a more conventional shape that should fit far down enough into the kettle. Extra Low-Watt Density; model # 120-1500-ELD https://www.plumbingsupply.com/images/water-heater-element-2853.jpg I've seen people in...

    Hobart Boil Kettle

Think this would be bendable? Maybe a loop if not a coil?

    Hobart Boil Kettle

If only it were that easy. I wanted to use those round bottom Hobart bowls for my vessels. Its why I was going for a more compact element shape, coils, spirals etc

    Hobart Boil Kettle

In thinking about it, I could go with three 500w cartridge heaters, wired in parallel. That out to do it.

    Hobart Boil Kettle

This was the element I was heavily considering @1800W. But given the helpful comments above I think I may have to search for a 1500W element. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DBOTPTO/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20
