    Excited Yeast!

Ah cool- that's great info for reference. I probably should just be ultra careful and take some readings to get an idea of how well these stickers are working in this new basement. Somewhat related- I borrowed an infrared point-and-shoot thermometer from work to try some handling-free...

    Excited Yeast!

Yeah I have my little fish-tank thermometer on the side of the carboy. Nothing unusually high going on there, I just don't really trust those for accurate temperatures. I really avoid taking direct temperatures during the ferment in my new place because the basement is REALLY humid and there...

    Excited Yeast!

I can't say I know EXACTLY what the temperature in the carboy was, but I always chill down to 21 C (69.8 F) in the brewpot before pitching. Unless there was a flash heatwave in the basement (which unfortunately happens here in SF) I don't think it was an issue with high temp. We'll find out if...

Yeah luckily it was right on that verge where it didn't blow.

    Excited Yeast!

Look at these little guys go...I took this video this morning, after the yeast had only been in about 16 hours. This is the most overflow I've ever gotten out of a ferment, but I also think I got a little greedy on the fill level in the carboy...kind of close to the top. Anyway, thought...

    Tragedy on Brewday

Why not all three? Yes, it's likely because it wasn't very far off the ground to begin with. I was just kind of shuffling along...when it popped off onto my foot, then tipped over and shattered. Cool! Nice solution.

    Tragedy on Brewday

Oh well. Now I know. I've been carrying them around full with these as long as I can remember- my family made wine growing up. No one ever told me they were for empties only, and at that point, why buy a handle just for carrying empty vessels? Seems like a lot of work- twisting and...

    Tragedy on Brewday

This evening a carboy full of soapy water ripped free from its handle, resulting in a tragic accident. Not only was the brewer's foot crushed during the impact, but the entire vessel shattered. Witnesses claim that this was not an unfitting conclusion to the brewday, as far more than the usual...

    Funky Off Flavor- Mysteriously Cured!

Ok, cool. I;ve had the issue before with pale ales but never something dark- for reference it's an oatmeal stout. I've noticed beers getting better with some time, but never having weird flavors go away. Thanks for the help! I'll add some aging to my regiment.

    Funky Off Flavor- Mysteriously Cured!

Hey everyone- I've been brewing for 5 years, though I took one off before my last batch due to a move. I kickstarted my experience by jumping right into all grain brewing with a friend who had years of experience. I keg because 1) I like drinking 2) I like sharing and 3) bottling is annoying...

    Making a dual beer tower?

Ok, cool, guys. Thanks for the replies! I read the other post quickly and it seems to have everything I need. I will definitely build my own tower- for now I have a keg kit set up with a line off it, so I have to open the fridge to get beer. I think I'm going to cast a sculpture of sorts out of...
