Good question, I had to throw together an emergency blow-off the other day..almost made my kids cherrios cherry flavored. It's settled down now, but I have not changed the solution in the jug since I put it together. about 4 days ago.
I try to get as close to the final known gravity as I can, but if I get the same reading over the course of a week (taking reading every 2 days or so after at least 3 weeks in the primary), then it's pretty safe to say the fermentation is done. I'll move it to the secondary at that point.
What I do is, when I am ready to bottle I will draw off enough beer into a seperate pitcher to fill anywhere from 6 to 10 bottles. I add my flavoring to that pitcher (stiring gently and adding the flavor to taste), and when I have it where I want it, then add that to the bolltes. I then bottle...
Thanks everyone for the advice. I pulled off the tubing on my auto syphon, and removed the bung from the carboy. After soaking it real quick in sanitizing solution, I attached the tube into the bung and put it back on the carboy with the other end on a 1 gal water bottle 1/4 filled with the...

I'm feeling kinda froggy tonight, and have actually been thinking of some origional receipes I could come up with to start a "line" of bears I can start making and report on my blog.
I'll try to come up with an orange juice based beer. Are we talking just the juice, or using the fruit as...
I have seen posts on this site about people using kegs as fermentors. My question is, where can i pick these up, or are they not really the way to go?

Just wondering what are some of the equipment, and supply shops you all use and why.
My LHBS is good for some things, but they don't have a huge selection and may be looking to ordering online at some point for my supplies.
thanks
