Has anyone tried the Odell Woodcut series?

I've had the 5 and actually have another bottle of it. It is a really good Quad but I do not think any of the bottles in that run ended up bottle conditioned. I plan to force carb my second bottle.

    San Antonio Brew Club?

Bexar Brewer here. The club is actually pretty active and we have quite a range of brewers. We held a AHA competition in April and had nearly 550 entries. We also assisted for the homebrew event last month during San Antonio Beer Week. Our meetings are the 3rd Friday of the month and is...

In austin texas looking for good beer.

Jester King is just outside of Austin and some of their beers are sour. Also, I recommend going to Whip-in (http://www.whipin.com/)for both the beer (draft and bottle shop) and the food.

Any reason not to start with all grain

I've only done all-grain and I have never regretted not starting with extract. I actually think that all-grain makes more sense as you are not taking steps that are already completed for you and then adding more steps (I guess I am talking more about partial mash or steeping grains). My...

    Need Help With Mill Motor

I assume you would be looking for a motor with the following specifications: 120 V (sometimes noted as 110 V) 60 in-lb (or more torque - I would go with 70 or more probably) AC motor, not DC From researching during my motorization I think you want 150-300 RPM.The motor can be geared down...

    Need Help With Mill Motor

I have the MM3 2.0 and I ended up buying three motors before I got one that would work. You will need 80 in-lb or more torque and want somewhere around 150-300 rpm. The first motor I bought only had 40 in-lb at 220 rpm and it would get stuck with only a hanful of grain thrown in. All of the...

What are Parameters for Competition Brews?

If you are a little light on the color that would likely only cost you 1 or 2 points out of a possible 3. Also, there is a good chance that a low ABV wouldn't be noticed.

What are Parameters for Competition Brews?

"I have a Blonde Ale that I'm quite fond of, however, it falls WAY outside of the IBU range. According to my brew software, it lists it at 98 IBU." Sounds like an IPA to me.

    Brewing with Pecans

I've done it a few times with adding the pecan meat into the mash after I had roasted them 3 or 4 times for 15 minutes at 325 dgrees. There are a number of discussions about this if you search for Southern Magnolia Pecan. I believe they use the shells which I have not tried yet.

    Just need to vent

The BJCP competitions I've been involved with are not judged as DannPM explains. Three bottles are submitted and the judges ranking 1-3 (mini BOS) are judging a fresh bottle. Much of the variation can come from the time between the first judging and the other judgings and from the...

    Motorized Malt Mill

I don't see where you say what type of mill but you should be able to switch the mill fairly easily.

Lazy Mag pecan, when and how to use pecans?

I've made a clone of this twice and I think that both times came pretty close to the original, although the second attempt was slightly better. Both times I roasted the pecans (just the meat part) and chopped them into small pieces and added them to the mash. The first time I think I pretty...

Motorized Grain Mills: Time to show them off!

I should be receiving that same bodine motor today or tomorrow. I bought the 177 rpm motor from surplus supply, flipped the direction of my rollers to be CCW and when I got everything mounted the motor was not nearly strong enough for my MM3.0-2.

    Show Us Your Label

My first label attempt. Made using a photo of my father when he was 7 years old. If you can't tell I had to photoshop an adult out of the pic...

If you are here the week of May 15-22 Beer week will be going on... Another brewpub that is not to far is the Faust in New Braunfels, although I haven't been there since they started brewing again (2 months ago)... As for places just to grab a beer some of my favorites are Flying Saucer, The...
