So how can you ever check a "pre-boil" gravity?

    Gravity Help

Hey all, I'm making a version of Old Monster barleywine from Brewing Classic Styles. It calls for 16.7 pounds of light LME and aims for a pre-gravity boil of 1.098. I have added approx. 15 pounds of Northern Brewer Gold LME to 6 gallons of water, heated to dissolve the extract, and yet my...

    Storing steeped water

Anyone see any problems with refrigerating or freezing the water the grains have been steeped in for later use?

    IIPA critique please

You're exactly right about the IBUs! I forgot to change my boil size to 6.5 gallons...that makes a big difference. I'm going to give the Summit a shot and see how it turns out. I'll also increase the dry hop by an ounce or two. Really, I can't imagine it will be bad.

    IIPA critique please

Too bad I have 4oz of non-organic Summit in the freezer. Better not tell my wife about the fertilizer or she'll never drink it.

    Good lord! 296 IBUs...very impressive.

    IIPA critique please

Sounds good. Perhaps I'll ditch the summit and just go with 1.5-2.0oz Simcoe at 60 min and then add another .5oz each of simcoe and amarillo for dry hops. Thanks for the advice.

    IIPA critique please

Thanks for the advice. I've never used corn sugar in my brews yet, but will consider it. Would you skip the summit and just go with Simcoe for bittering? 5oz of dry hop sounds delicious, but expensive. I think I might try to up the dry hops an ounce or so though.
