Stopping an infection before it starts

I'd cold crash it asap. Either rack into the keg or just drop the secondary into the kegerator if there's room. You may get a little oxidation if you don't have CO2 yet, but everything seems to go badly a whole lot slower at fridge temperatures, so I think that'll buy you enough time.

First AG: Efficiency and Trub Question

According to this calculator, if I was correct with my measurement of 8 gallons in the kettle and 1.050 specific gravity (averaged between one reading that read 1.053 and one that read 1.047. I assume if I stirred it up it would lie somewhere in the middle, but perhaps on the lower end) I ended...

First AG: Efficiency and Trub Question

I should have been clearer: I actually wanted (very) little body, not (a) little body. I did not use a hop bag or anything but I think I will in the future. I was also not really sure what to expect from my first batch sparge, so I'm not too concerned with the volumes. Is there an easy way to...

First AG: Efficiency and Trub Question

I have done a few BIAB in the past, but yesterday was my first official *true* AG with a cooler to mash in and everything. It was very exciting and easier than I thought. I did a super simple IPA recipe I found in another thread (12 pounds of 2 row, 0.5 lbs of Crystal 40L, and ~10 oz of Cascade...

    Apartment Woes: Pot Too Small?

That's really interesting. Maybe I'll try that! How much water do you usually lose to grain absorption? I used to have a calculator bookmarked but lost it.

    Apartment Woes: Pot Too Small?

I'm only stuck here for another 3ish months, and one of the main requirements for my next place is enough room to brew! I think I'm going to try to BIAB mash in the bigger pot then split for the boil as soon as I get some free time to brew!

    Apartment Woes: Pot Too Small?

I have an all grain kit of ingredients ready to go, but for the forseeable future I'm stuck without my propane burner and big pot. It's only 10.25 pounds of grain, but the only pots I have available are one that can hold 4 to 4.5 gallons and one that'll do 3 to 3.5. Is there any way I can get...

New Keezer Help - Kenmore 253.19531990

Sorry for the long delay, I've been away from the forums for a while. At the moment I only have 4 kegs, but I ran the numbers and I should be able to fit at least 8, possibly 10 if I stagger them (I don't have the pad I was planning this all on anymore). I'd post a picture but the place is an...

Refilling CO2 Tanks with Dry Ice?

Oh man, I've been away for a while and this thread has really been going! To assuage any fears, I'm still here will all my limbs intact. I decided not to try this because it just seemed like too much risk to take, and I found a decent price for refills.

New Keezer Help - Kenmore 253.19531990

Sorry for the extended delay, but I had a series of problems with temperature control that ended in me breaking down and buying a commercial external controller rather than fiddling with the internal setting or my own thermostat. Just got the STC-1000 assembled and it's looking gorgeous! I'll...

Guide to set internal chest freezer thermostat to >32F; Eliminate external control

I've been having a difficult time here.. I built my keezer and adjusted the screw up to get the temperature where I want it, but it's been maddeningly inconsistent. Without touching the thermostat at all, each cycle is completely random. First one will turn on at 41 off at 30, next will flip...

New Keezer Help - Kenmore 253.19531990

Just glued in two layers of r=3 insulation foam to the collar! When I glued the collar down I put a thick bead all along the edge and smushed it down, then put a decent bead all around on the inside to make sure it would stick and it feels pretty darn solid. Now the foam is glued together and...

New Keezer Help - Kenmore 253.19531990

I don't have the tools or the skills for that kind of cut :D

New Keezer Help - Kenmore 253.19531990

Yeah I had thought about adding a handle that I can lift by and use as a towel bar right in the middle. Thought it might look cool and prevent me from having to lift the collar by the glue.

New Keezer Help - Kenmore 253.19531990

After three coats of stain and four coats of clear polyurethane, I just glued the collar to the lid! The tube says allow to set for 48 hours before removing mechanical fasteners and it'll fully cure after 5-8 days. Do I really have to wait a week before I can move on with this project??
