I don't recall exactly sure how much if a difference it would make, but I think you will want to use water that is heated to mash temp in order calibrate your sight glass. Great write up... I agree, very useful information!

I agree with Spartan300man, clean your equipment till it looks clean without any visible gunk, then use a good sanitizer. I use Starsan like alot of people here. A little goes a long way, follow the directions. If your equipment was thoroughly cleaned, you might be able to reuse a good portion...
