I've experienced murky water when I've added brewing salts for darker beers, like stouts. I believe it's the pickling lime that causes this, but the beers have all turned out great. You're good!
Yeah what Bleme said, not ruined, but I would attached 5-10 feet of tubing or you're probably going to keep getting foam. I carb most of my ales at 10-12psi @ 40°F with 10 feet of tubing, never have any foaming issues.
When I got into kegging a few years ago I went ahead and ordered a 4-Pack bundle of ball lock kegs from Keg Connection. These were used kegs but all came shipped holding pressure. All the kegs came fairly clean, one or two had minor dents but not a big deal. I would shop around various keg...
Yeah, when I brew lagers it takes about 2 days before I see any sign of fermentation. But for ales I typically see it going in a day or less. Looking back, a starter would have been a safer option. I just hope the yeast can do its thing and doesn't crap out on me.
Just brewed up the Wookie Jack clone from this forum this past Saturday, everything went smooth, hit my OG at 1.082 going for 1.080 (I'll take it). Being lazy and having a 6 month old, I decided against making a starter and just put in two vials of WLP002 into the fermenter holding at 62°...
My local place charges $15 for a 5lb tank refill. I recently purchased a 10lb tank because of this, they only charge $18 for that and I get double the amount. Bigger tanks are the way to get the most bang for your buck!
When you can gift a friend getting into the hobby with a boil kettle, fermenter, and a mash paddle that you just had lying around the garage because you keep upgrading.
It sounds like you didn't pitch enough yeast to me, I always use 2-3 times more yeast for lagers than ales. I have a Oktoberfest that I'm finally tapping this weekend. I pitched 3 packets of Saflager W34/70 Dry Yeast (couldn't find any Oktoberfest yeast) and my FG got down to 1.009. I pitched...
Alright, I'll plan to start carbing it once I transfer it to the purged keg. I'm thinking that would be the better option to keep any oxygen out as it ages as well.
I just brewed my first lager on the 4th. Pilsner with hallertau hops during the boil then a touch of nelson at whirlpool. It's currently fermenting in the low 50's then I plan to slowly raise the temp up for a diacetyl rest.
My question is after that's done, I plan to transfer it to a keg to...
