Yeah I have 7 foot lines and I can pour just fine in a glass but do get foam issues when pouring in to a growler at full pressure, I have Perlick 630ss, and the growler filler helps but there's still plenty of foam. When my current lines need to be replaced, I might go ahead and double the...
I'm wondering if anyone has found a good way to fill growlers without degassing?
A month ago, I brewed a wonderful smoky Rauchbier, but after I degassed a few time to fill up some growlers (3 different occasions), I've noticed that most of the wonderful aroma is gone. I've also noticed the...
Looks like they were bought out by KegConnection.com
https://www.homebrewsupply.com/exciting-news/
I've had pleasant experiences with Keg connection so I'm looking forward to using the homebrew side.
So I just kegged it and the wlp099 took the gravity all the way down to 1.006 (about 10-20 points more than I wanted, but now it's at least palatable and not like drinking syrup).
In the future I'll probably only use the ESB yeast on low gravity beers that I want plenty of sugars left over.
OG: 1.088
FG: 1.040 (and almost undrinkable).
Only 1/2 lb crystal 90, but I also took about 1 gallon of first runnings and boiled it down to about 1/4 gallon, it wasn't a thick syrup.
Yeah if wlp099 doesn't utilize maltotriose, I probably won't see much difference, I'd be very...
I'll gladly try this yeast again on Milds or Ordinary Bitters where I want more residual sugars, but I doubt I'd ever use it on an ESB or anything with a higher gravity.
I really regret using this on a Wee Heavy, I ended up pitching White Labs 099 Super High Gravity Yeast because I read that...
Just a note: the Spike kettle is much thicker 1.2mm vs .8 mm for the SS Brewtech. So for the extra cost you're getting more than just the welded fittings.
My question though is the extra thickness needed? Overall the SS Brewtech is far cheaper (for the 10 gallon size, about $75 cheaper).
I live in North Texas, I get by using the gamma lids and 5 gallon food grade buckets stored in my garage. Each bag of grain I buy lasts 6-12 months and in the summer we regularly hit the high 90s - low 100s (we have very low humidity though). I've never had any issues and I don't taste a...
Personally, I'd be concerned about head space in those, even if you go to the neck the wide opening still leaves far more head space than what you have in a standard PET or glass carboy.
I'm betting you could use the 2-row and up the victory to a full lb you'd get something similar as the maris otter(especially since you're using so many dark malts).
This doesn't work well for high gravity:
OG: 1.088, FG: 1.038, Attenuation only 55%. Mash temperature 148 for 30 minutes then 155 for 30 minutes. My original recipe did contain 1.5lb of Crystal malts so that's partly to blame but I expected far better attenuation than this. I rehydrated a...
I'm fermenting this now on a 1.088 beer and this yeast has a crazy krausen, I have 5 gallons it in a 7.25 gallon carboy and it easily reached the airlock before I switched to a blow off tube. The beer also raised 8 degrees above ambient temperature.
I do wish I knew about the high gravity...
I'm having to use the cool brewing bag now also, I don't mind changing out the ice everyday, you only really have to do it during the first week of fermentation (I keep mine inside so after a week I allow it to rise to ambient temperatures) and I always check on my beer a couple of times a day...
