Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

Thanks for posting this!!! :mug: After a few months break, finally picked up the washers from Fastenal and put this together last night. Held together for 90 minutes with no leaks. FB from Midwest and a couple kits supposed to arrive Monday. Can't wait to brew a couple batches next...

    What's your favorite Micro brewery.

I like Great Lakes and some of Spreecher's are tasty.

Best approach to moving to all-grain in steps?

Thanks for all the tips. Never thought about using two pots on a single stove. Will a flat top stove be able to handle the weight? After reading some of the DIY posts, I'm looking into making my own IC. It sounds like a fun little project and nice money saver. Not sure if I'll make...

Best approach to moving to all-grain in steps?

I'm looking to move to all-grain. Here are some items I'm looking at purchasing, but can't afford everything at once... External propane burner. (Using an electric stove now). 8+ gallon pot (using a 5 gallon that I figure can be used for sparge water). Mash/lauter tun. Wort chiller since...

    Need some Märzen input.

I made the AHS Marzen/Oktoberfest mini-mash kit a few months ago and definitely recommend it. I've only been brewing since Jan 1. It's hands down my best beer so far. Once I free up some bottles, I'll be purchasing two of the kits. I want to double the batch so that I'm fully using the...

    Austin Homebrew Supply AHS Oktoberfest

Joe, That's the same kit I brewed. I had the mini-mash kit, plus alcohol boost, with the Wyeast Oktoberfest yeast. I don't have my notes in front of me, but I'll give my best summary. I did make a starter. (After an earlier experience, the great people on the boards convinced me to...

    Austin Homebrew Supply AHS Oktoberfest

I brewed the mini-mash kit in March and had my first taste this week. It easily the best beer I've brewed. I'm an Oktoberfest beer lover, so I may be biased. This beats any beer I've purchased from bars and stores in months. There's no way this batch will come close to lasting until...

What do you guys prefer for bottles?

I've only been brewing since Jan 1. I started out purchasing a couple cases of 12 oz bottles. Now, I'm up to 4 cases of 12 oz bottles, plus miscellaneous 12 oz bottles. I'll be bottling batches 6 and 7 this weekend. I decided to purchase a couple 12 packs of 22 oz bottles and save myself...

    Question on lager fermentation

Thanks Yooper. I might have to get another secondary carboy so I can keep brewing at least one batch a month.

    Question on lager fermentation

When pitching cold, should the starter also be lowered to the 44 temp to prevent yeast shock?

    Question on lager fermentation

Thanks for the reply Yooper. It's my first time lagering, so I had no idea what to expect. Time to RDWHAHB.

    Question on lager fermentation

I purchased an Octoberfest kit from Austin Home Brew (with the alcohol boost). I made a starter (used the Wyeast Octoberfest smack pack). 2 weeks ago, I brewed. When I poured the starter into the primary, fermentation took off within 24 hours. After about 3 days, things started slowing...

    Brewers Best Kits

Just tasted a BB Amber Ale I brewed about 6 weeks ago (used the 1-2-3 method). It has a metal taste. After reading a post from Forrest, it's likely from the LME in a can.
