    Off flavor in dark beer

At this point I'm not ruling out hoses, but every time I siphon my hoses soak in starsan for like an hour so I feel like it would kill any mold on there Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Off flavor in dark beer

My buddy doesn't use any softener pills or anything to treat his water. I used a yeast nutrient which I heard has zinc and can cause metallic flavors in dark beer so I assumed it was that. But since that batch I've brewed two other dark beers and didn't use it and still ended up with the same...

    Off flavor in dark beer

I've done partial mash and extract. I use the tap water here in honolulu. My buddy next door just made an awesome porter with the same tap water. In fact none of his beers had had any off flavors like mine and all with just tap water.

    Off flavor in dark beer

Ok so I'm on my 11th batch of beer, and every dark beer I've brewed has the exact same off taste. The on my first stout it had this off taste and i read on the forum that it just needs time to age and the flavors will settle. Well I've been having a bottle about every month over the past year...

    Steep temp too hot!

Ok, I'm not a total noob. I have about 8 brews under my belt. Today i stepped away while i was steeping my grains. I read some other people that had done this, but my temp was 185+ and for over 5 min at least. I haven't read some one butchering it that bad yet. So do i scrap the grains and...

    Starter yeast overflow

My wife was the one that found it and she just put the lid back on. Probably not the best option a new piece of sanitized foil would have been better. But yeah it was still foaming

    Starter yeast overflow

So I started my yeast starter last night. 2L glass beaker with a 2in opening and a foil lid. It ended up being pretty full. When I woke up this morning it had overflown and the foil lid fell off... Meaning it was expose to open air for up to 6-8 hours. Should I scrap this batch of starter to not...

    Is this infected?

It didn't taste "as infected" as the last 2. But didn't taste great. It does seems to have a sheen forming at the top of it too

    Is this infected?

3 out of my past 6 batches have been infected... In suspecting this one is too. What do you think?

    Another infection? Frustration!

Let me know what you find out. I am going through the same thing right now. I bleach bombed everything and also soaked it in oxy clean. Waiting to see if this batch spoiled. Here is my thread https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f163/gnarly-smell-again-440575/

    Gnarly smell...Again!!!

Love'n all this advice and encouragement! haha Thanks again. I think you guys are right about bleach bombing everything. Im going to take it to every thing i brew with, and take everything apart. Star San isnt doing the trick to what ever has a hold to my gear. Unfortunately i did the...
