So I've had a few chugger pumps for about 6 months now, and I tore them down to make sure they were clean. They were spotless inside with the exception of some metal particles stuck to the magnets on the impeller. See pic. They are reddish brown in color and are definitely metal because I...
I've looked into some fridges, but for me it's an aesthetic thing as well and the display fridges are expensive. I'm thinking I could get by with one AC unit. I'm hoping that the insulation in the garage door keeps most of the afternoon heat at bay (my house faces west), and with one AC unit...
Thanks for the info. This is a pretty new process for me too so I'm figuring out the best way to do things with minimal hassle. I guess I'll have to wait until these two beers are done to see how well they clear.
Hey so I assume you're able to get a good whirlpool going with that setup? I have an Exchilerator and a Chugger pump, and with all that tubing I couldn't get a decent whirlpool happening.
For those of you with counterflow chillers. Do you send your wort through the chiller and then back to the kettle? Or do you send your wort through the chiller and then directly to the fermenter?
The reason I ask is; The first time I used this counterflow chiller, it just took way too long...
I just bought 2 - Ss 14 gal unitanks and the Ss chiller. I live in Fresno, CA and my garage sits around 95 to 105 in the dead of summer. I currently have my first two batches fermenting in this equipment. I've found that the chiller has no problem getting the glycol down to 28 degrees which is...
I just got mine and am using it for the first time on a batch I brewed yesterday. Works fantastic and is readable even inside my Ss Brew Bucket, which is inside a freezer. The initial measurement was EXACTLY what I read on my physical hydrometer and the thermometer on the brew bucket. Can't ask...
Yeah, I'm sure I'll forget. LOL. What I might do after thinking about it is just put together some short lines for lower carbed beers and just swap them out with the beers. A few feet of tubing and a disconnect shouldn't cost much.
I have a three body secondary regulator so I can run different pressures. However, they all run at the same temp, and have the same length of lines. I might have to check out those flow control faucets. I saw them when I bought mine, but wasn't sure what they were for.
Ok, I just got my keezer built and am carbonating my second keg. The first keg I did at 12psi and my keezer is set to 38 degrees. Came out wonderfully.
The second keg however is a porter. So referring to the many carbonation charts that say porters should be carbonated less, I set it to...
Picked up a few cheap freezers from Costco. Made one into a fermentation chamber and a buddy helped me turn the other into a keezer. I'm adding one more faucet, that's why there's an extra hole. Did the top in chalkboard contact paper so I can write on it.
This is my second batch of home brew and it came out pretty awesome. Very encouraging. :mug:

Hey thanks for all the feedback. I guess I should stoked that it's drinkable at least! And hearing your comments on the Munton's gives me encouragement to keep going and try something else next time. Can't wait to start my next batch.
Cheers!

Alright folks, I decided to take the plunge and get into the home brewing hobby. I decided to start simple so I bought a Munton's IPA Bitter extract kit, followed the directions, and today cracked the first one open and gave it a taste.
I think it came out alright.... it's the right color...
