Show us your sculpture or brew rig

Even though I learned to weld so I could build my own 2x2" square steel single tier stand with a Blichmann Tower of Power to run the mash, I completely agree with you. It is easy and expensive (and fun!) to get swept up, but there are few things you can't do on your setup that you could do on a...

How do you cool with that?

Keggle, Step Bit, and Burned Metal

I drilled my first using WD40 and smoked it. Using cutting oil for the rest made an enormous difference. You may also need a new bit as the HF stuff isn't the highest quality steel and will dull very quickly if it gets too hot.

ChuckJaxFL's single tier, all electric build thread

C'mon, get a 10 pound spool! I would have loved to get a 220v welder. Had planned on running it off the generator. Couldn't find one for anywhere near my budget so ended up with a Lincoln Electric SP-100 for $120 on Craigslist. Turns out the 110 outlet on the gen is only 20 amp and the...

    Brutus Style Brewstand Build

BTW, BrewingGunner, didn't mean to sidetrack, derail, or otherwise steal the thunder of your posts. Besides some pretty sketchy rip offs of the old BYO plans this was the best I found. Doesn't appear to be copyrighted, either, so no need to feel bad about using them.

    Brutus Style Brewstand Build

This is what I used (modified): http://xa.yimg.com/kq/groups/14085118/1257679793/name/Brutus.pdf I lowered the bottom braces, removed the bottom middle cross support, and made the burner openings 13"x13" (instead of 12"x13"). I also ran a BWP gas manifold as my completely novice welding skills...

Lots of learning with this Brutus build!

Holy crap. Eight hours or so in and I'm almost done. If I should ever build another stand I will do the following: 1 - Clean/grind all the metal right away before welding. 2 - Not wait a month and two brew days before painting. 3 - If #1 is missed I will pay someone to sandblast the frame. 4...

Lots of learning with this Brutus build!

Painting today. Actually hoping to remove all he hardware, prep (grind and wash) and prime. Unless things go WAY better Nd faster than I expect I can't imagine getting color on. Decided to high-temp paint versus a commercial coating as the ceramic powder coating would have been hella...

Propane, Single tier, direct fired RIMS build

I used 2" square mild steel at 1/8" thickness. Complete overkill. Shouldn't have been blinded by the "me too" part of it. The BG14's are surprisingly heavy burners, and I use 3. On the plus side is not having to worry about it tipping over when it's loaded up. I got some 2000 degree stuff...

Propane, Single tier, direct fired RIMS build

My stand is done except for painting and putting the diamond plate on it, but I think it's about 200+ lbs with the burners. I ended up buying a furniture dolly for it. There are casters, too, but I stand it on end for storage and I couldn't move it without a hand truck. Now I stand it up on...

    Fermentation chamber moisture buildup

I have one of these in my keezer and it works wonderfully :http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000H0XFD2/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 The lower dew point caused by the freezer chiller causes condensate to form on the coldest point (the chiller itself). There is a lot of evaporative moisture...

    New Carboy Washer Pressure Issue

I went through three caps trying different spray designs. Fourth one was just a 3/8" hole centered and deburred...works FAR better than the multi-hole spray head. Try it even without a cap as the flow volume and sheeting action are what cleans the carboys.

    Cheap weldless HLT setup?

Also check http://www.bargainfittings.com/. I've ordered from them a couple times and always been VERY impressed. Really top quality stuff, not at all what you'd expect for the price.

    Antique Radio Kegerator Build

The screw is probably acting as a heatsink. Unless its cold enough to be causing condensation I probably wouldn't worry about it.
