Bottle Infection? What's going on here?

Unfortunately not, I used the corn sugar / boiled water solution. I am crossing my fingers that it's residual santizer from washing the bottles welling up in the necks, but that might be wishful thinking. I also dry hopped and read that some folks hypothesize it's hop oils. I guess I'll have...

Bottle Infection? What's going on here?

Hi everyone, Long time since I've brewed and got back into this summer. First batch was a farmhouse style / quasi-saison situation. Somewhat of a mutt but I think dead on for a warm fall season. Recipe below. I bottled nearly two weeks ago. Peaked the other day and noticed a bit of an oil /...

    Aluminum Turkey Fryer Mash Tun

Thanks for the link. I've read a bunch of back and forth lately about whether or not its safe to have the vinyl tube in the mash (of if it's safe to use at all for that matter). That is why I was going to run the copper up the height of the pot, so that I could connect it when I am ready to...

    Aluminum Turkey Fryer Mash Tun

That's a good point, they might be too large. In which case, I would pinch or cap the end of the copper that is under the rack, and drill a series of holes in it with a 3/16" bit. Or, I coudl place some screen above or below the existing rack.

    Aluminum Turkey Fryer Mash Tun

I'm looking at buying a 30 qt turkey fryer pot to use as a mash tun. It comes with a corrugated "poultry rack" which is basically a disc with 1 inch walls to keep it off the bottom of the pot, and with holes drilled into it to. Has anyone ever used one of these racks as a false bottom? I was...

    Stuck Winter Ale?

I believe the OG reading was right. I was quite surprised by the low efficiency myself. I mashed for 90 minutes and took about 90 minutes to lauter...batch sparging three times in total. The first runnings were somewhere around 1.200. I was surprised how quickly the gravity dropped off...

    Stuck Winter Ale?

Closet temp where the fermenter is read 73F. I also stuck the thermometer in the liquid in the airlock and it was 75F. Does it need to be any warmer than that?

    Stuck Winter Ale?

I brewed an all grain winter ale (recipe below). OG was 1.062. A week later, all action has stopped and it's reading 1.022 consistently. I was assuming it would get down to 1.015ish. Am I at the end of the line for this beer? 5 gallons 13 lbs Marris Otter 2 lbs crystal 80L 1/3 lb chocolate 1/3...
