I built my ugly mill (sorry no pics) last fall so I would say its relatively "new". Im still playing around with the settings and check it when you switch from 2row to wheat etc but yeah I cranked it down pretty tight.
To combat the shredded huls I went ahead with the "conditioning" step...
Got it in the kettle and boiling away. Should be same old process from here. I think I was a bit low on my mash temps 1-2 degrees but all in all for the first time things worked pretty well.
Finallly!!
I started brewing about 15 months ago brewed about 5 extract/PM batches in the first 4 months and then had to take some time off to focus on other things.
I took this time to accumulate the equipment to go AG and to read and learn and read and learn some more. Just wanted to say...
If you want to do full boils for a five gallon batch you will need somewhere around 7-8 gallons.
I just purchased a very nice kettle from Spike Brewing : http://www.spikebrewing.com/
If you dont want to spend that much you can try a turkey frier combo.
I'm also fairly new to the hobby with only 3-4 batches under my belt.
One thing that I would reccomend is that you already mentioned BIAB and all grain so make sure that you scale kettles etc to be able to hold the volumes that you need. Since you are already thinking about these I would...
I'm fairly new to the hobby as well so here is my $.02. I purchased a 5 gal SS kettle to do kits and partial boils. This works well for begginners unless you want to jump directly into all-grain. AG is more complex and requires a good deal of understanding so this can be challenging for...
Just brewed a partial mash version of this with a few changes. I dont have all grain capability so went to LHBS and this is what they gave me:
1.6 LBS wheat grain
1.06 lbs 2 row
2 lbs muntons light DME
3 lbs muntons wheat DME
1 pack munich wheat yeast
I zested 2 smallish oranges and on...
No worries on the brew pot. The boil will take care of sanitizing. The spoon if used only for stirring the boil is also not an issue, if you stirred after flameout it could potentially be an issue if you touched a lot of dirty stuff. The fermentation bucket would be my biggest concern since the...
Danarchy-
Sounds like your going above and beyond as far as cleaning and sanitizing (not a bad thing just maybe not needed) but you do what you feel comfortable with.
I am also a n00b so take this for what it is worth. I typically soak bottles overnight (minimum) in oxyclean to remove...
