I just made my electric tire pump/compressor into a vacuum pump. I tested the HG with a guage and it read 27hg. Is that to much for degassing? I read through a lot of threads on this and opinions vary. But I think the majority say 20 is safe. But I'm not sure how I would reduce the suction...
I found this vacuum pump at my local Harbor Freight store for only $20. Im wondering if this will work as a vacuum pump to degas my wine. Its says its holds 28hg at 90 psi. Im wonding if I lower my psi I can get it around 20hg. Obviously I would have to add a pressure guage...

So I'm going to count this toward a newbie mistake or misunderstanding.
I did some more measurements last night and I do believe its 6 gallons. The issue is/was the way I was measuring 1 gallon. I was measuring 4 qts = 1 gallon, therefore I used 24 quarts to = 6 gallons.

Any suggestions...

Here are the equipment kits on Amazon I'm looking at..

Thank you for the info. The bottles I have for after the fermenting process are glass. So I'm good their. transferring the wine to the glass jar, is it safe to put the top on and store it? Or will the continuation of the fermenting process (even if very slow) cause a pressure build up?
I am making my first few bottles of wine the poor boy way, from juice bottles from the store. These are just experiments to have fun and if I want to get more serious about wine making I will probably go to using the kits. Having said that, as I’m new at this I have a lot of questions...
