    Your system is good...aeration only matters after fermentation starts...prior to fermentation, you want as much oxygen as possible...that's why many people add oxygen to the wort, or shake their carboy prior to pitching their yeast.

    1.5 week camping trip - keeping beer cool efficiently

    I'm not sure how it would work, but I've always thought about wrapping a keg in rope. If you wrapped the keg in a rope that would absorb some water, then kept the rope wet, when the water evaporated it would cool it off. I've witnessed it on a water jug sized scale, and it works surprisingly...

    My two cents: Get a hydrometer and learn how to use it. Purchase Beersmith and have fun designing beers, while you apply everything you learn. Make yourself a 10G mash tun. Buy a banjo burner. Use your keggle. Spend the rest on ingredients. Next phase would be grain mill, stir plate, and...
