    Help with custom recipe

Thanks for the reply. You should brew this too. Unfortunately, I won't be able to brew this until 2 weeks into October. I'm going with your hop suggestion. 6 tsp cinnamon, 4 tsp ginger, 1 tsp nutmeg, 1 tsp cloves sounds good. Should be able to taste the spices without over powering the...

    Help with custom recipe

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking, what if I was to use 6.6 pounds of a light or pale liquid malt extract, then use 2 pounds of a plain dark dry malt extract. That should still give me a black beer with 1 1/2 pounds of chocolate grains, and 1 pound of carmel 40L grains, while the overall beer...

    Help with custom recipe

I'm planning on brewing a recipe that I'm currently researching for Christmas. I'm going to be buying the majority of my supplies locally, which may or may not limit my options. For this ale, all that I know that I want to use so far is Briess Chocolate malt grains in which I already have 1...

    Colonial Tavern Extract Porter Discussion

I'm working on a recipe for a Colonial style porter, the goal is to brew a modern day beer with Colonial era characteristics. My question is about specialty grains. I'll be using 9 pounds of Maillards Maris Otter malt extract syrup, 1 pound of pregelatinized flaked corn, blackstrip molasses, and...

    Colonial Ale?

Thanks for the information, I was going to post the same thing, but you beat me to it. Beer's during the Colonial era, are said by those into historical brewing, to not only contain hops, but to be very hoppy beers, like IPA's. One wonder's if this was done as a preferred taste, or to preserve...

    Colonial Ale?

Nope, I'm brewing this more so to see what a beer might have tasted like back then, but I guess one could use this for a reenactment, it would be reliving history if you could get it down perfect. I do remember reading in my research so far, that the cluster hops, were the first hops grown in...

    Colonial Ale?

I've been reading on Colonial style beer recipes, in preparation of brewing an extract based, Colonial style ale that's a close representation of what a Colonial ale might have tasted like in those day's. Here's the recipe that I have so far: 8 lbs Pale Malt Extract 4 lbs Wheat Malt Extract...

It really is hard to screw up beer--testimonial

I'm new to home brewing too, just brewed my second, 5 gallon batch which is a ale. I've had my fair share of mistakes, all the way back to when i used Mr. Beer, but i haven't had one come out that i couldn't drink. I made a mistake tonight, i didn't monitor the temps like i should have and the...

    Propane Burner?

Thanks. I was going to order mine online, but if Home Depot has them, that saves me money on shipping.

    Propane Burner?

Thanks for the replies. I'm using a 5 gallon brew kettle, if i do a 2 gallon kit that's pre-hopped, no problem although it still takes awhile. But a full 60 minute boil, it just takes to long so i think the propane burner is what i need. I'll look into screens to keep bugs out.
