    Are hops deer resistant?

I think you're good to go. If you haven't done this after harvest yet, snap a bine and squeeze out the liquid. Then put it on your tongue....instant cotton mouth:) No wonder I have to keep drinking after having an IPA.

    Hop bines starting already PNW?

Here east of the Cascades, I only have purple eyes showing off of the rhizomes(it's still pretty darn cold at night) and that is fine with me....cause when these bad boys start to grow, stress of harvest is just around the corner:D

    Eggnog Cream Ale

This is a great idea for a recipe. I too think flaked oats will add some "thickness". I have a stout faucet that my wife says it needs to be put to more use....okay:D

    2012 Harvest in at Freshops

Yep, my buddy started their harvest last Monday. They don't send much to Freshops or HopUnion, most of theirs goes to Coors. It smells so damn good driving through the Yakima and lower valley.

    2012 hops harvest

I'm getting ready for my harvest(6th year). Kinda getting stressed out about it with new floors being laid down and knowing that I have 24-ish dried pounds ahead of me to pick, this guy is gonna need a vacation after this season. I have one Chinook plant that yields me almost 6# dried every year:D

    Hops Smell

You don't need to do any crushing before brewing them. The liquid does a better job at extracting the goodness you're looking for.

    citra hops cutting?

I'm still wondering about these "seeds". Have you grown anything from these before? Don't know of any seeds on a female plant.

    Hop Drying Time

Mine usually dry out in 2-3 days. Sealing on the 3rd day for sure. I might also live in a much drier climate than you. When the scales open and you can really feel the stem inside with some crunching/spring-back, they're ready.

First season hop garden with pics and some questions

Hops look great. Yes, nitrogen is your hops best friend. You can easily "cheat"(I don't think it is) with MiracleGro. I wouldn't worry too much about covering them up for winter. Hops are a unique bread of plants. They do best on the extremes. Grow like heck when hot as heck and prefer...

    hop harvest advice needed

Chinooks produce very large cones and when ready, the "scales"of the cones really open up almost pointing laterally. For the most part, if the majority of the cones are ready the rest of the plant is ready for harvest. As soon after I harvest all the cones of a plant, only days later the plant...

    Hop dying...too hot?

The temps are great for hops. However, when that warm it is very important to keep them well watered. We hit the triple digits alot in August and I've never seen my hops grow so much during this time but they are on a timer-irrigation and they get a lot of it or they too turn brown.

    'Chocolate Mint' plant acquired

My wife just got that plant the other day, strong chocolate/mint. We're putting it in a planter so it doesnt take off like all the other plants are....looking forward to using it in a brew

Why or how did you get into homebrewing?

It is something passed down from generations in our family. I brew the beer and my sister makes the wine.

    Makes me smile

That's what this hobbies all about. I get a bigger smile on my face when my friends tell me not to change a thing on my style of brewing....so many perks to this hobby.

    Another rainy brew day

I can't recall the last time I ever had a rainy brewday(if any). Either snow or 100+ degrees;)
