    Grainfather!!

We just moved into a different house. While the new house offers more living space it has the same or less storage space. I have been brewing the traditional "homebrew method." You know, Igloo cooler, propane burner, two kettles, etc.. Lot's of work but the beer usually turns out good...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Great brew day today. A friend and I brewed a 5 gallon batch of porter, a 1 gallon batch of sMasH (Belgium pale and columbus) and a 1 gallon batch of sMasH (UK pale and columbus). Hope to do a side by side tasting of the sMasH beers in a few weeks. Now I just have to clean everything up. Ugh.

    Using Brett

I was planning on inoculating my first Burton Ale after primary. I have only been able to look at a few recipes for BA and none of them have brett in them. Some of the articles I have read mention that since BA was aged in old oak barrels, it probably had brett in them naturally. Any...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

For me, traditional turkey dinner calls for a more balanced beer. A brown or mellow pale work for me. The pumkin spice also works for a lot other foods we eat around the holidays.

What I did for beer today

Finally built my "Son of Fermentation Chiller." I used plans I found at http://home.roadrunner.com/~brewbeer/chiller/chiller.PDF. I didn't use the thermostat and power supply they recommend. I already had a wired Ranco dual stage temp controller and a converted bench power supply (5vdc and...

What I did for beer today

I was finally able to get my 4 x 8 sheet of rigid foam to the house for my chiller. I have my cut list, saw, straight edge, tape measure, saw horses and motivation. The next step, acquire about 1-2 hours of time to make the cuts without help from my 3 year old assistant. Then assembly...

    Brew Day From Hell

I put the last of this in a plastic 2 litter bottle about a month ago and sealed it up tight. Opened it tonight and it is just as carbonated now add it was then. It still tastes great and is real purty to look at. Great color, clear with great head retention. Definitely brewing this recipe...

    Hop Teas

Ok, the Centennial bittering hops didn't really have any flavor and no aroma (no real surprise there). They did give a very bitter aftertaste that lasted several minutes. Difficult to describe any taste at all just a bittering "sensation". I will try the Cascade next as bittering only and see...
