    Worst Experience of Home Brewing

I got 2 cases of 22 ounce bottles from my neighbor, 1 was new and the other had bottles that were just thrown in there after they were drunk, not even washed out. In my haste, I threw the wrong case in the dishwasher to sanitize before I went to bed. Bottled a batch the next day, and sure...

    Worst Brewing Injury

Wow, I never thought of that one. I might get my gloves on during bottling for that, maybe even safety glasses. :(

My first EdWorts Apfelwein (Love is in the air)

I strayed ever so slightly from the recipe by adding one gallon of Blueberry/Pomegranite juice to it, and it never got the stinks. :)

    A quick style question

In regards to 2008 BJCP style guidelines, does an American Pale Ale have to use American 2-row or is Maris Otter acceptable within the style? I've never entered a competition before and I'm so pleased with this beer that I may enter it. Thanks, Cascadie

I finally got to taste a good homebrew..

Isn't it a great feeling to make a brew that you're so proud of!? I did the same thing with the EdWort's Haus Pale Ale, drank one about a week after bottling and was just floored at how good it was! I'm very surprised at the amount of carbonation you got after four days. Congratulations...

    Stove Top All-Grain

The best beer I've made yet was EdWort's Haus Pale Ale done on the stovetop with Brew In a Bag, aka BIAB. I guestimated how much hops to put in each pot since they were not equal volumes and was very pleased with the whole experience. Cascadie

    Speed Beer Choice

I brewed EdWort's Haus Pale on 11/7 and served it on Thanksgiving, and everyone was very pleased with it. It was my first AG, to boot and bottled, not kegged. .02 from a newbie. Cascadie

More Brew in a Bag (BIAB) Success

I basically followed EdWort's Haus Pale Ale recipe, except I used BIAB. I did get 6.5 gallons to the boil and I got 80% efficiency! I pulled the bag and let it drain a bit before squeezing it pretty thoroughly. My mash temp slid a bit, so I added some boiling water to bring it back up with...

Picture of my Pilsner - What do you think?

I think the candles are a bit silly, but the photo's make me want to open a homebrew! Congrats on your success! :tank: Cascadie

How many gallons of EdWort's Haus Pale Ale have been made?

    All-Grain for first time brewer?

From another noob's point of view, if you're pretty sure you're going to be doing this for a while, just go AG. The equipment is a bit more expensive at startup, but if you're not worried about the expense, my opinion is to just jump in, you'll wind up there eventually anyway. The doing is...

    BIAB question

Hmm, then I did it wrong. 152*F for an hour in 3.25 gal (needed to add water maintain heat due to cheap cooler) added 6 qts @ 170*F Drained bag, poured wort into bucket Bag back in 3 gal @ 170*F Drained bag, poured wort into bucket Divided remaining wort between 8 qt kettle and 20 qt...

    BIAB question

32 quarts is 8 gallons, why do you only want to do a 4 gallon boil? I get that much pretty easily out of my 20 quart stock pot. Perhaps you actually have a smaller stock pot. My batch started out about an inch and a half from the rim, and it was fine, but as has been said, don't even think...

    BIAB question

I'm doing this very thing as I type! I have 4.5 gallons in one kettle, and 1.5+ (as much as I dared put in without boiling over) in another and I have about 10 minutes left in the boil. I use TLAR to divide up the hops between batches. (that looks about right) ... scurries off to add hops...
