New Kegerator Build... Frozen Keg Question

I couldn't get all of the kegs to sit below the lid, so I added a 2x8 collar around the rim of the freezer.... think that puts my kegs right on the evaporator loop? Thanks for tip on not submerging the probe, def saved me in the long run. Instead of the water, I'll insulate the probe against...

New Kegerator Build... Frozen Keg Question

I've got a spare chest freezer, and extra temp controller, that I can fit 6 cornys in but they touch the freezer walls. I've read thru some threads and heard stories about kegs freezing up when they touch the freezer walls. This being because the freezer walls contain the cooling coils and are...

    repitching yeast... yes or no....

5.5 gal into fermenter. The slurry is wlp001 and vial is 002. I don't mind mixing the two. I'll just pitch the vial and that top layer... may turn out to be a nice surprise. Thanks for your info.

    repitching yeast... yes or no....

So I know there's a lot of threads about repitching yeast, but I'm in the middle of a brew day and need a little advice. I just moved a high IBU IPA into a secondary. I'm brewing a porter right now with a target OG of 1.068. I didn't make a starter like I usually do, have one vial of wlp002...

DIY glycol chilled plastic conical fermenters

What would you say this project cost you, total? I went thru all the parts but was having trouble trying to ballpark a number. Just curious how far my money will go if I start now.

DIY glycol chilled plastic conical fermenters

I jumped on the thread late but have been reading through; awesome build. Do you have a blog or anything that lays out your process, cost, equipment, etc? Or should I just go slowly through the forum and pick it all out? You've got me sold!

Best plate chiller for the money?

What water source are you using in the summer?

Best plate chiller for the money?

Ohhh ya I was way under shooting the flow. I want to say I have a really small pump from harbor freight and it was like 260 gph. I'll make the switch, much cheaper than a new plate chiller and the needed fittings. Guess well see how it goes.

Best plate chiller for the money?

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll take a look at them. If I do go plate chiller, definitely using air to dry out before storage. This summer has been brutally humid... had to bleach and pressure wash the driveway because it turned green...already turning back to green. Its wild

Best plate chiller for the money?

I usually use tap to get it down to around 100, then pump the ice water. I'm using a really small sump pump, what GPM pump do you use? And is it a sump or just a regular pump and you hook up a hose from your cooler? And yes, I frequently stir the wort during chilling. Maybe I'm pumping too slow...

Best plate chiller for the money?

This summer is the breaking point with my immersion chiller.... I've brewed nearly every weekend and its taking me somewhere around 45 min-1 hr to chill my wort to about 78... then I can't get it to drop any lower. I've tried multiple ways to get the tap water down in temp: adding a 25ft coil...
