What I did for beer today

I finished my new magnetic stir plate this morning. My old one was kind of janky and the speed control went from zero to "throw the stir bar" with the slightest touch. For the new one I purchased an inexpensive low-voltage speed control (~$5 on Amazon) and used a 4.6v 3v wall wort from my stash...

    Motor for Grain Mill

Table saw motors general run around 3400 rpm. You'll need about a two foot sheave on the mill to get it down to a reasonable speed. I use an old general purpose motor I got off an old band saw that runs at the more typical speed of about 1725 rpm with a 10:1 gear reduction plus a 4" pulley on...

What I did for beer today

Today was Deep Clean day. I disassembled all my weldless bulkhead fittings, diptubes, 2- and 3-piece ball valves and gave all the pieces a nice hot PBW bath. There were a couple of grungy spots hidden away behind some of the interior connectors, but it wasn't as bad as I thought they might be...

    Northern Brewers - AWOL?

You can order grains down to the oz. and he's got a nice batch tool that lets you combine grains into a single bag, ready for brew day. I usually order three separate batches in my orders. This. Don't believe the initial shipping estimate. When you get to ordering you'll get shipping choices...

    BIAB vs 3 vessel setups

I've said it in other threads. I love my 240v electric 3V system. I can pretend I'm running a tiny professional brewery. But if I were starting over, I'd take a long, hard look at an AIO system.

Connecticut Maltose Express is NOT(?) closing. What LHB shops remain in CT?

...aaaaaand closed. We are looking to make some fundamental changes to re-open in the near future. Wishful thinking? I had not had a chance to get there to check them out. Frankly, it's too far for me to even call them my local homebrew store.

    PBW supply

I hope it's a fluke. My son works for a dogsled tour company in the northern woods of WI. This year has been pretty much a bust.

    Does liquid "leak" through pump?

I've had my pump connected between my kettle on the table and plate chiller on the ground and I didn't need to turn it on as gravity was getting the job done.

    Equipment crossroads.

My original "High Tech" 3V system. I'm running a 220v 3V system now, but if I was starting over, I would look hard at AIO.

Andy Capp this week was relevant to our interest.

I'm with you on Garfield, though. Well into adulthood, the comics page was the first thing I turned to when the morning paper showed up. Now I just have two or three mainstream comics emailed to me daily (Zits & Doonesbury), as well as a few web comics that publish weekly or sporadically.

Andy Capp this week was relevant to our interest.

I mean more relevant than his usual hanging out in pubs and drinking beer... I haven't read any Andy Capp comic strips in years, but he popped into my head this morning for no apparent reason, so I hopped on line to see what he's up to. And this one was published just this week: I don't...
