    Cademon Test Lab Build

Just a quick update on the lab. I've been brewing twice a week for a while now making samples for tastings and such. The mash paddle got a coat of poly/stain last week, the grain mill's drill mount has been replaced with a 1/3hp 1/2" drive shaft motor and is wired up to a switch. The mill is...

    Cademon Test Lab Build

My basement sits 68F year round, so I run ambient. I want to switch to active fermentation control, but the money's been focused on the production brewery so I haven't dropped the cash on immersion coils for each fermenter.

    Cademon Test Lab Build

Wow, 3 weeks later and I finally have time to take some pics. The holidays were spent with family and processing all the beer already in the works, this week I have started replenishing. Here are a couple shots of the area while I am currently brewing a Red Rye. Current projects in the lab...

Brew Beer with the BeagleBone Black

No worries, I don't believe the RPi is the end-all-be-all for brewery equipment, I just happen to use one in my pilot lab and will be using one in my commercial brewery once permits are finished. :D

Brew Beer with the BeagleBone Black

Oh I certainly get the benefits of a microcontroller vs a PC and why one might choose a PIC-based solution over a linux-based solution. I have also, amongst my various builds, built a brewery expansion board that had an in-board AT328P to interface with (Fun little board to work with). My...

    Cademon Test Lab Build

Things are great, I'll post pictures later this afternoon. The brewstand has been working for several months with a few upgrades along the way. Several brews have come through and as we speak I am filling up a few kegs from recent batches. The lab has been extremely helpful in tweaking...

Brew Beer with the BeagleBone Black

I've never understood this concern regarding limited I/O on the Pi for brewing purposes. For what's being shown in this demo, no Arduino is necessary to make a Pi do the same thing. I run my entire hotside brewery on a standalone Pi using 3 pins total (1wire, HLT SSR, BK SSR). For dual-stage...

    Group Buy in Chicago #9

As is usual with these things, I will be picking up random splits on things as we get closer to the end date. No promise that I will pick up yours, but I like diversity in my lab and comparing one supplier to the other for the brewery. :)

    Group Buy in Chicago #8

Bill, are we going to have another group by at the end of the year, or will #9 be the last one of the year? I'm doing grain calculations and I want to make sure I'm set for the brew schedule I have setup.

    Group Buy in Chicago #8

Two buys previous we placed an order for barrels. You need to get enough interest from others to buy barrels to mitigate the shipping price for it to happen. I believe in that buy there was either 4 or 8 barrels ordered and it averaged out to $160/barrel.

There's a pretty high chance I'm buying 20 sacks this time around, up from last buy's 6 and the previous buy's 10. If people have been brewing their big beers this summer to age for winter, they're going to need to resupply.

I am calling it now: 24K lbs of grain.
