    NB Bourbon Barrel Porter

I just received my NB BBP extract kit in the mail today. I have the Wyeast Scottish Ale Yeast Smack Pack. I have read several threads that indicate that the necessity of a starter with this kit. I have never used a starter before, and was planning on smacking the pack 5-6 hours prior to...

First go at an extract IPA recipe

Thanks for the link... I believe that I have my head wrapped around how this works better now. I still am struggling with taking OG readings it seems with my hydrometer. The beer has been in primary now since 7/1 and I had serious activity with 24 hours of pitching the yeast. Today is day 10 on...

First go at an extract IPA recipe

OK... so with this specific beer I would use this equation - SGP = W(Lbs) * EP (GP/lb) * EE/V(gallons) which would be x/5 = 8 * .75 * 1/5? I think I am doing something wrong... argh! I am getting 6 SGP which would be only 1.006 as an OG which is way off... I am not sure what I am doing wrong...

Well... a little more than two weeks in, and the airlock still has a nice constant bubbling. This is very exciting! I don't know how I will wait 3 months to bottle!

    Hop Pellets vs Hop Leafs

I am relatively new to brewing (two batches), and I am looking at using a recipe that I found here on HomeBrewTalk for an IPA. I am researching buying hops online, and was curious as to what anyone has to say about pellets vs leaf. Is there a difference in the technique when hopping? How about...

R2-D2, Thank you very much... I am going to give this recipe a try. I did pull one recipe that looks pretty good from the recipes section on this site called 60 Minute IPA. I have a Coops Amber Ale Kit from Two Brothers and EdWorts Afelwein fermenting right now, so as soon as I bottle the...

Very nice... I am relatively new to brewing. I brewed a nut brown ale for my first brew in August, and just brewed an amber ale and EdWorts Apfelwein that are both fermenting right now. Are you brewing all grain or extract? Kegging or bottling? I am interested in getting into both grain and...
