Harbor Freight Tools -- What works? and What doesn't?

Bought my 18 GA brad nailer there to do some trim work around the house. I was hoping it would last for that project and is still going strong 5 years later. Not bad for $11.99 and the reduction in hammer struck fingers was well worth it.

To drink while brewing or not to drink.. That is the question

I usually have one at flame out, then another when cleaning and scrubbing the mash tun and kettle. Oh and I have a sample or two during bottling but I don't want to get too tipsy before I'm done.

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

Sadly just air. Most of my gear is in storage, we are closing on a new house in two weeks. I have not had the opportunity to brew for several months as we are packing and getting the old house ready for sale. Hope to get a brew day set asap after the move. I'm starting to get anxious as my...

Brewing Solo, The best thing since sliced bread

I have yet to brew solo, kids are home and like to help at different points. My 6yo boy is fascinated with the auto siphon and likes to fill bottles, 4yo daughter stirs mash and likes to weigh hops. The pit bull just lays by the burner on cool days and waits for a treat.

Cost of Beer Kits vs Buying Bulk

I have less than $50 in my milling setup, bought a generic corona mill, cheap 5 gallon bucket, a hand full of washers to help align the plates, and a bolt that threaded into the driveshaft. Already had a scrap of 1x2 to mount the mill, socket to drive the bolt, and cordless drill. I figure...

Hoppiest commercial brew you have ever drank?

Have to agree that Ruination is about the best hop bomb I have had. I drank a bomber of RuinTen last night, was a bit more bitter and had more of a "distinct" aroma. My wife thought the cat had pissed somewhere. Enjoy by 9-13 was good and had great aroma but seemed a bit lacking in flavor.

    I found a brewing minion

My 4 year old daughter is my brew minion, has been very helpful with adding hops and holding bottles.

Small batches - Mr Beer or Brewdemon fermenter?

Put a wedge or piece of 1x2 under the spigot side of the bucket while fermenting, a little angle helps settle the trub away from the spigot. Also open the valve for a couple of seconds before putting the bottling wand on to blow sludge out. What does get into the bottles will settle out during...

Small batches - Mr Beer or Brewdemon fermenter?

I use a 3.5 gallon plastic paint bucket from Lowes for half batches, I just drilled and added a spigot so I can attach a bottling wand. Much easier to pour wort into the bucket than the Mr beer keg which I still use for apfelwein. Since they are cheap I'm planning to get another small bucket...

Would you use man made yeast?

Ehh, what's the worst that could happen? I might turn into a beer craving zombie. Kinda feel like that after a 16 hour shift anyway.
