    high OG yeast

Doesnt seem to make any difference which method I use. I have tried extracts and biab techniques using varying methods over the years. It just seems to be whenever I have that higher OG. The only oxygenating I do is giving it a bloody good whip up with the paddle, have heard of guys using...

    high OG yeast

Is there a trick to getting high OG brews to fully ferment? Every time I try to brew a nice strong batch around 1.055 OG or higher they always struggle to ferment out to a FG below 1.020. I would really like to do more high OG brews so would appreciate any tips with regards to yeast to get...

    Does Cider Need Yeast?

Not too sure, but id guess much the same late summer to autum (Feb - June ish). The tress had lost all there leaves and were about to get bulldozed to make way for a development so thought id run around and grab them before they were lost forever. I dont even know the variety or anything. Just...

    Does Cider Need Yeast?

Yeh thats what i was worried about. All the recipees without yeast said it would take longer just not how much longer. They sprouted on about the natural yeast contained within the apples was enough. Im not in any rush but if its going to take months i might need to chuck some yeast in. Cheers

    Does Cider Need Yeast?

Hi Guys, I did a bit of reaserch before starting my first cider and there seemed to be two schools of thought on this and a multitude of recipes. If juicing real apples instead of bought juice do you need to add yeast? My fermenter currently has 19 litres of crushed and squeezed apple juice...

    Has my brew gone bad?

Thats yet another mystery. I brew in a plastic fermenter, mix with a plastic spoon, fill with water using plastic container. I may be a bit off with my description of the smell and taste as it is just different. The main thing that worries my is the fact that the ferment had definately...

    Has my brew gone bad?

Smell - Slightly Metallic Taste - Industrial ish Looks - Quite cloudy compared to others but that was what I was aiming for. Procedure - Same as each of my other brews. Temp - Maybe a bit high due to the summer temps, sat around 28C. It was more the fact that my first impression upon...

    Has my brew gone bad?

Put down a basic extract with added malt powder and hops a couple of weeks ago. Ferment started fast and was going hard for a few days then stopped. Planned to bottle that weekend but didnt end up getting the time. Went to do it the following weekend and noticed that it had started fermenting...

    First alcoholic Ginger Beer attempt

Thanks for that. So same theory as for normal beer then i guess. It was just the low readings gave me a little hope for bottling today. My only other and first ever brew never got lower than 1.014 so was quite excitted to see a normal finishing gravity level. Cheers

    First alcoholic Ginger Beer attempt

Hi Guys, Ive had my first ginger beer kit in the fermenter now for 8 days. Its been bubbling away nicely and have taken a couple of gravity readings. Yesterday it read 1.004 and today 1.002. It started out at 1.024 so looking forward to a slightly alcoholic brew. Even though the readings are low...

Help - First Brew ready for bottling??

Well I managed to wait the week. Took another couple of readings and no change. Still sitting on 1.014. Descided to bottle yesterday and all went well. Did notice in the last couple of tests that it had cleared quite a bit since last weekend. Even after leaving it sit in a glass for a while...
