    Fruit Beer Strawberry Wheat

I made this several weeks ago and just served it over the weekend. Hops were substituted to Tetnang (just because thats what I had) and added FWH. Because i was in a crunch to serve this for some guests, I racked right onto the strawberries in the keg. Five pounds handpicked Virginia...

    Beer Flight/Tasting Paddles at Target

Located in the dollar section when you first walk in at Target. Paddles were $3 and each tasting glass was $1. Total of $7 for each set. Paddles could use some sanding on the edges and stain to make them look a little nicer, but for the price that are not bad at all. Glasses are 6oz to the rim...

    adding canned pumpkin? When?

I recently made a pumpkin ale with two large cans of pure pumpkin in the mash and then one large can of the spiced pie filling at 60. No baking, just straight from the can. I still added spice at the end of the boil. Came out real nice.

British Brown Ale Aberdeen Brown Ale (NewCastle Clone) AG

I was very excited to make this brew, so I went to my LHBS to buy the grain. I ordered grain for two beers, this and a pumpkin ale. I didn't realize it until I went home, but I forgot to specify uncrushed and that I didn't want all of the grain mixed together. That's on me. But now I have a...

    Pumpkin puree

Other methods as in spreading the pumpkin out on a sheet and baking it? Are you staying to just dump the cans right into the mash? I was thinking of going with about 60oz pure pumpkin directly into the mash (no baking). Then adding 30oz of the pre-spiced stuff at 60min. Then only add a...

Show off your 2012 Hops garden!

Marigold and Zinnia. The Zinnias are the small green plants in the close up picture. They will grow into a multicolored flower. Both are supposed to attract ladybugs, aka garden badasses. Marigold repels some other pests as well.

Show off your 2012 Hops garden!

I ordered and planted my Cascade, Centennial, and Hallertau late, but Centennial and Hallertau are already breaking through. Made the three-section planter with scraps left over from building the fence. One section for each type of hop. It is hard to see in the pictures, but there are two...

    New Kegerator CO2 leaking?

Glad to hear it! Leaks are not fun, especially one that burns through tanks like that. Now go and taste your success...

Cheap but always looking at equipment

I have Craigslist rss feeds set up for certain terms in Outlook. The moment someone posts equipment in any nearby area I get the update. I don't pull the trigger often, but I have snagged a couple of good deals. 4 cornies at $10 each, a 20# tank for $25, and a two-tap jockey box with cold plate...

    New Kegerator CO2 leaking?

Does the pressure go back up if you take the tank out if the fridge and let it warm up? Or is the tank fully depleting? Don't go by the regulator high pressure gauge, it is not accurate when cold. You can really only go by weight.

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I made two batches the first week of January (about 7.5 weeks), one with Montrachet and one with Cote des Blanc. Both with only one pound of sugar instead of two. My wife and I just found out last week that we are going to be expecting our second. So, I was thinking it would be neat to have a...

    Southeastern VA/Eastern NC???

I've purchased two sacks from HomebrewUSA before. One 2-row and one white wheat. Each was $55. Not a horrible price for bulk grains, but I was hoping for a little bit better with a bulk buy, in the high $30s to low $40s. I'll have to give Cake and Wine a shot sometime.
