    kettle vs cooler

I use a 70 quart Extreme cooler with tubing and gravity to get water 10 degrees above strike temp from kettle to the cooler. After the cooler is closed for about 20 minutes the cooler is preheated and the water is at strike temp. Stir in the grains and forget it for an hour. The only lifting is...

    Good low budget dry hopper...

The Hop swelling is an issue. I use the paint strainer bags with a shot glass for weight and SS wire to keep them suspended off the bottom. I wash all in the dishwasher then boil all the day before brewing. A quick spry with StarSan before it goes in the fermentor

    Nitro setup and equipment

You may want to call Matt. I found his site hard to follow but if you talk to him he can tell you what you need. His prices beat all the others I looked at. Thanks Dan

    Nitro setup and equipment

My Nitrogen tank (and I think most commercial) is mixed 75% Nitro and 25% Co2. The Nitro Bottles have a different connection than Co2, I use an adaptor so I can use a Co2 regulator. I got all my parts from CHI Company and the prices are a guess: Co2/Nitro Tank Adaptor $10.00, Co2 Regulator and...

is boiling jars necessary for harvesting yeast?

I boil them 5 minutes but as a min I would fill them 1/2 full with water and run them in the microwave till they boil a few minutes. The only real time is cool down so if you do it a few hours before harvesting it's really no extra time to know nothing in that jar is alive.

Upgrading from 10 gal to 20 gal batches. Choosing kettles.

So a side question. I started 10 gallon batches this year and have a chest freezer that holds (6) kegs, (1) nitro Tap, and (4) Co2 taps. I have a total of (8) 5 gallon corneys. I have another chest freezer in my brew room that can store (4) 5 gallon corneys. I have hit the wall on serving...

    Simple Yeast Storage Procedure

I have gotten my yeast harvesting proceedure down and thought I would share. I make 10 gallon batches in a SS Conical. 12 to 24 hours after pitch I dump trub thru the bottom valve. 7 to 10 days after pitch I boil 4 mason pint jars and 1 quart jar. My 2000ml flask won't fit in my microwave...

    american stainless conicals from PA

I got my fermentor at "Brewforless" 12.5 gallon about 16.5" Dia. They recommend using both but they may be thinner gaskets. I have not used the Spike Gaskets
