    Measuring width of mill qeustion

Use a set of feeler gauges to check your gap. Check the gap on each end and in the middle. Don’t get stressed out about measuring the nubs, etc., the feeler gauges will overlap these areas. Your rollers will wear over time and the malt will begin to take the path of least resistance, so you...

Realistic shelf life of a IPA

Excessive DO pickup will ruin Hop flavor and aroma, limit DO pickup and you’ll preserve that freshness. I feel as if this is what Yooper was eluding to also

Realistic shelf life of a IPA

He’s referring to bottle conditioning, and yes it can extend shelf life. This is done quite often in production breweries by dosing in a small amount of Yeast to the final product. This dosed Yeast will help scavenge out any remaining DO pickup in the product, thus increasing shelf life. DO...

How do the big boys do Fermentation Transfer?

Yep, using CO2 is a huge factor and we do a lot of what’s called “press outs” by pushing the final volume of product out of the line with DAW (de-aerated water, very low ppb of dissolved oxygen). We use DAW to move product around all throughout the cellar.

    Aerating wort in Corny Keg

Were you venting the keg at all when you were trying to use the aquarium pump? Otherwise, I would imagine you would be building up too much pressure within the keg for the little pump to overcome

preparing to make a coconut curry hefeweizein

I work for NBB in Asheville and I can’t tell you how many stories I’ve heard about the brewing of that beer. It was loathed by many on the brewing and maintenance teams alike. The curry powder was a nightmare to run through the brewing equipment. But, on the other hand, I’m glad you like the...

New Belgium, AVL. This is a 1/2 Bbl setup we designed and built in house for playing around with and experimenting. We utilized a Sabco frame, but everything else was fabbed on-site. It is propane, auto fired, with Honeywell combination gas valves on the HLT and WK. It is a HERMS setup so we...

Tri Clover, (TC, Tri Clamp) Recirculation Arm

If I still had access to the equipment, I would. I left my old job where I had plenty of down time to play with the tig welder and tubing bender and such, sorry. Maybe fish around, I'm sure there's someone on HBT that could hook you up

Tri Clover, (TC, Tri Clamp) Recirculation Arm

I just used a standard tubing bender, something like this would do great, as long as it was sized appropriately

Tri Clover, (TC, Tri Clamp) Recirculation Arm

Basically, yes Mr. Hello. I have thoughts of fabbing up a sparge arm that will attach to the fitting also. My thoughts were that having the tri clover makes it very easy for swapping out different fittings during the brew day. I love welding, so I welded the 1/2 inch bulk head in permanently...
