So I've just polished off the last bottle of this batch. I have to say, I really really liked it and it was a great first venture into lager brewing. If I were to brew again, I think I would add the melanoidin malt though. The finished beer was incredibly crisp and clean but I felt it needed...
Bottled this a week ago, carbing up to 2.8 volumes is the plan. How long do people recommend conditioning this for? The samples I tasted were all harshly bitter so I'm assuming it will need time to mellow. Any advice/experience?
Ingredients for this one are on the way. Looking for some advice though.
1. I have oak whiskey barrel dominoes. Will these be ok or do they need to be toasted? The chunks I have are charred from before they held whiskey.
2. I'm thinking of splitting the batch and putting a tonne of orange...
Thanks for this. Brewing an IPL soon and this has given me a good basis on how to handle different hop additions and OG/IBU. I'm really enjoying IPL as a style lately, so this recipe is going onto my to-brew list too.
Brewed this up today, my first lager. 10L batch, single step mash @ 64ºC and now fermenting at 10ºC. Will report back with taste notes in 6+ weeks! Thanks for the recipe.
I'm so happy to hear this because I'm feeling the same right now. My terrible patience is a killer though, I just can't wait for this to taste like it should!
Snap, that's crazy! I've chalked the OG to underestimating my systems efficiency but I'll know next time.
I had my first taste yesterday, 2 weeks in the bottle. Came out with practically no head so I'm pretty disappointed at that. Carbonation seems fine though, just no head retention. The...
Yea I'll be leaving it another 2 weeks minimum. It's my first time using the yeast too. Calculates to 87% apparent attenuation which seems mad compared to what I've seen others reporting.
Checked my gravity today after 10 days and it's gone from 1.064 all the way down to 1.008! 7.3% ABV, this won't be a sipper.
The hydrometer sample tasted hot and alcoholic. Is this the same for everyone when the beer is young? I know I'll have to leave it mellow out but I'm just wondering is...
