Yeah, what fun bottling is! I (clumsily) knocked over half of my batch while prepping to cap.:mad::mad:
Funny thing, I work for a distributor and had thought of putting each bottle into a separated box, but I didn't bring one home.
I ended up with 24 bottles (well 23 and a half)...
I guess my math is terrible today. I bought 5 96oz jugs of applejuice... so I need 2.5 more.
Can I just leave it as-is until tomorrow with sugar and applejuice, or can I pitch yeast and add more tomorrow?
What do you suggest?
Well I couldn't wait and took a sample with a wine thief I picked up today.
1.010-2 I believe (kinda hard to read with the hint of foam on top). FG listed as 1.010
It bubbled a hint here and there after I replaced the top. I'll check again in a few days...
I did take a swig of the sample...
A great suggestion! I've toyed with inkscape a few times when I was away from work or personal PCs. I'm a Corel junky by trade (graphics manager for a beer distributor) but thought it worked well and has a good support base.
I'd highly suggest anyone making their own label/brand/identity...
I got a kit from Midwest with the Autumn Amber Ale as well. Is yours the "everything" kit?
The Wyeast was bloated a bit, BUT the inner packet did not completly pop. Smack it well so it does what it's supposed to. Mine swelled some, about 2" thick but not completely.
Mine has been in...
On the brews that do not bubble, what do you do? Wait a week and take a sample, then go back at it a week later or so? Or are you looking for krausen?
I think I'll end up picking another fermentation bucket/bottle this week. I was thinking of putting this one in the secondary (if anything...
Isn't the co2 a sort of protective layer over wort during fermentation?
Just being cautious...
I'm thinking I should probably take a reading next saturday or so...? How do I know when to do so? I know many have said avoid watching the airlock, but others seem to swear by it.
Small update, the airlock is popping pretty good this morning. Last night it was moving some too!
Another question though. I've read I need to take a hydrometer reading 2 days in a row to see if it has reached FG yet. Wouldn't it hurt to take the lid off the fermenter to do so? It seems...
