    saison yeast evolution

Yeah, I was pretty drunk when I posted and forgot some yeast basics. Maybe the specific type of yeast, being from the Belgian/French border, has something to do with the development of wine yeast. The yeast for saison beer is unlike any other beer yeast I'm aware of, but probably shares some...

    saison yeast evolution

So, I'm brewing a saison. Absolutely impressed with the yeast, crazy fermentation. Using WLP566, Belgian Saison II. So, does anyone know how this yeast evolved? Who started using this yeast, how long ago? I've read Farmhouse Ales, and the saison style has fascinated me. If this yeast evolved...

RIP MCA You will be missed!!!

maybe because he was young, maybe because I grew up listening to them... or because he was positive and doing his best... but MCA's passing has affected me. Listening to the 5 Boroughs right now. Beasties made me laugh and think. Love the punk rock influence in their music, along with all the...

So who ferments in their brew kettle?

I think this is a great technique, and I'm going to start using it with some of my next small batches (2 gallon) in my smaller kettle (4 ga kettle). I'll probably stick with my current technique of chilling and transferring to carboy for 5 gallon batches- I don't like to experiment much with...

    Magnetic Fields

Magnetic Fields are excellent. Maybe if you find them on iTunes or something you can scroll through their songs until you find the one you heard? From your description it does sound like Magnetic Fields.

    Ruthless Rye

Had a few last night, I really enjoyed it. Another great beer from SN. For some reason I haven't been drinking too much of the Torpedo lately. I think the rye in this beer adds some nice complexity and mouthfeel to the IPA style- I'll certainly pick up some more Ruthless whenever I get a chance.

    Ruthless Rye

Looking forward to trying this. I'm a big fan of all Sierra Nevada beers. The label is awesome on this one, spent too much time this morning checking out some of Ken Taylor's other artwork online. My next brew is going to be a rye pale ale, so I'll have this and Terrapin's to try alongside my...

    Orlando drinking

I'd check out a bottle from Saint Somewhere, out of Tarpon Springs FL. I had a saison from them (bottle), which I really enjoyed. Also, Cigar City is excellent- their Guava Grove is an amazing beer. I haven't been to their tasting room, but everything I've tried from them has been great.

    Whattya pourin' for Christmas??

Well I'm actually brewing a Belgian Wit today, so I've got a few examples of the style to sample. And I'm really looking forward to a bottle of Cigar City Guava Grove for later tonight, first time trying that beer. Merry Christmas all!

Wish I could see them live one day. They are an awesome band, and I especially like that they're all from VT/NH

Look Out Craft Breweries - Here Comes BMC...

You'd think the big 3 breweries could produce an amazing beer or two, something on the order of the finest European brews in terms of taste and quality (i.e., not another American pale ale or brown-- we've got plenty of good ones). They obviously have the technology, knowledge, and talent, but...
