Can i split a batch for the boil i only have a 5 gallon pot

I see what you mean. I took the question to be that he has one five gallon pot like I do, I'd have a helluva time splitting off myself as I don't have the two pots! If you don't mind, why are you concerned about the hops utilization? There is no top-off during the hop boil only before and...

So I mashed in too hot..

I fully expect to have a sour dry beer; I was just posting to see if anyone has experience in regulating how sour the beer gets, etc...

Can i split a batch for the boil i only have a 5 gallon pot

I do this without a problem. Run off five gallons into your kettle and the remainder into a 3 gallon cooler. Boil off a gallon and a half and top it up with the wort you have in the cooler. Start your hop boil and when finished top off the five gallons with the remainder of your wort...

So I mashed in too hot..

and the fermentation stalled at about 1.031 due to the high content of unfermentables. In lieu of dumping the batch (blasphemy!) I racked it over grapes in a secondary to use the lambic yeasts on the fruit to break down the long chain sugars. I'm fully expecting a slightly sour dry beer and...

    Typical Lauter Speed

The braid's SS, I'm thinking of cutting it shorter and affixing a heavy SS nut to the end. Typically you want to see the braid long enough to cover the bottom of the tun, and no longer, correct? Also, I'll be adding the tubing to the discharge. Thanks for the ideas guys!

    Typical Lauter Speed

Attach tubing on the outside? On the draining end of my ball valve?

    Typical Lauter Speed

I'm using a 3/8" connected with FIP to attach the braid; the FIP has a 1/4" opening which may be leading to the slow lauter speed. I don't believe it would cause THIS slow of a lautering however.

    Typical Lauter Speed

First all grain over the weekend. Build my MLT from a igloo 50 quart, 30" SS braid, and 3/8" ball valve. Found braid floating in grain bed in beginning, I think I have to affix it to the bottom of the tun. Was wondering: is this a typical lauter speed? Keep in mind this is fully open...
