OK to bottle in a 64oz flip top growler?

I think we all agree that the larger the bottle the more total force you have at the same pressure. I’m intrigued to figure out if the volume and surface area of headspace is a significant factor in bottle booms given everything else stays constant. Can you have higher pressure in the...

Secondary fermenter vs secondary fermentation conflation

Agree completely. My cousin who is a professional wine maker taught these terms to me ~20 years ago. Getting rid of “secondary” for more specific terms seems necessary in this global community. There are some drinks that are made with a bacterial secondary fermentation, IPA for example uses a...

Secondary fermenter vs secondary fermentation conflation

I’ve noticed a very common conflation. A secondary fermenter is a container most often used to continue primary fermentation after transferring from the primary fermenter. A secondary fermentation is when you add sugar after primary fermentation has finished to restart fermentation for the...

OK to bottle in a 64oz flip top growler?

Not quite If the head pressure is four times higher distributed over four times the area you have the same pressure distribution as 1/4 the pressure over 1/4 the area. Real problem would be the thickness if the glass. Small bottle has proportionally thicker glass and a smaller radius giving it...

    Make IPA Clear Again

I’m not sure how any beer, aged in a barrel for a year then dry hopped for six months can be cloudy. Seems suspect to me.

Which yeast is your favorite dry yeast for making mead?

70$ to accomplish what a 10$ keg bucket and 5$ in fittings will do? For wrapping around a conical, sure. But if I wanted to cool buckets or a carboy I’d go simple.

I like it for higher alcohol 13-18% sack mead. 71B-1122 for low alcohol fruity mead

A bigger bucket to set the carboy/bucket into. Pump the chilled water into the water bucket, have a hole drilled into it at the drain height with a hose attached to return the water to the chiller reservoir. Hydroponic shops have all kinds of gear to do this kind of thing.

Which yeast is your favorite dry yeast for making mead?

What about a Peltier cooler/ heater plate under the fermenter. Temp probe on the side going to a controller. Fermenter wrapped in thermal blanket. Edit: I see you’ve already thought of that. Never mind. Just woke up. Words no work good yet Suppose a water jacket, fish tank heater /cooler...
