    My little Peltier fermentation chamber.

Hi NSMikeD, yeah, this is 20 amps or so, but it's 12v, so it's like 2 amps of 120v (a bit more because it's not 100% efficient). My system uses 3 water cooling heatsink that looks like this one: (hope the link works) Two goes for the hot side, and the middle one goes for the cold...

    My little Peltier fermentation chamber.

Good day folks! I know this forum as lots of "Peltier = fails" comment, but then I wanted to show you my fermentation chamber that use theses littles chips. The basic is to use 4 Peltiers and two water cooling system (one for hot side, other for hot side) to get enough power to cool down your...

    Yet, another efficiency issue thread.

Remember what John Palmer says about the water? "If it smells good, and taste good, your water is probably good enough for EXTRACT BREWING." Well, when I read the guide, I was doing extract, so I skipped that section and forgot about it. Forgot about the "extract brewing" part when I...

Final reading of fly sparging for high O.G.

    Alright, thanks for the info.

Final reading of fly sparging for high O.G.

I didn't know how to search for this info, so I went lazy and posted a new thread... 8P Let's say I want to do a brew with an O.G. of 1.080 (or more), using a fly sparge. The first few drops will have a gravity that's a lot higher, let's say 1.100, and will slowly goes down. Now, the...

    Yet, another efficiency issue thread.

I use a spaghetti thingy on top and a false bottom at the bottom, I don't think I have channelling issue. For my next brew, I will take a look at the water. I know to have lots of chlorine in the water, so boiling should help. I looked at the water report, but it doesn't say much, sadly.

    Yet, another efficiency issue thread.

Reading after Vorlauf: 1.050. Reading at the end of the fly sparge: 1.004 Reading pre-boil : 1.045. Reading post-boil: 1.050. Theses numbers are not 100% accurate, because of the temperature, but gives a good idea.

    Yet, another efficiency issue thread.

I didn't do mash out because I read it is only used to "stop" the mash process. But since it's something I haven't tried yet, I'll take it a shot for my next brew. On a side note, my reading at the end of the sparging is at or lower than 1.010. My understanding is that I grab all the sugar...

    2 gallon batches

The thing is, if you do kits, like pre-made malt (like Copper to name it), they all come based on a 5 gallon batch. So you will need to do something like 2 batch at a time, or scrap half of your stuff each time. Now, if you do all grain, then I say you are in for the good stuff. Even more if...

    Did I kill my yeast??

You did exactly as I did on my first attempt. After waiting for about a day, we finally got sign of activity. But that activity was not yeast, but some wild bacteria. And because it was my first brew, I didn't know about it and let it work it's way for a few weeks. We did bottle the...

    Yet, another efficiency issue thread.

My bad, I wrote 5,5 pounds, while in fact it is 5,95 lbs. (blame it on the kg/lbs convertion) ppg = 2,9 gal. * 50 / 5.95 lbs = 24 ppg As for the grain, the owner of the mill did have a long speach (about half an hour long) about it being set up at the right setup. Soooo, I won't...

    Yet, another efficiency issue thread.

    Trying to figure out my low efficiency (~60% for 5 batch in a row). A few numbers: - 2,9 gallons batch (11 litres) - 5,95 pounds of grain (much of them being 2 row) - Maxium O.G. of 1.072 ( 37.5 ppg ) ** According to John Palmer ** - Actual O.G. of 1.050 ( 24 ppg ) - Strike water : 2,28...

False Bottom out of Baker's Secret Pizza Pan

The result: Short answer: Good, if seal is well made. 8) Long answer: So after the mash was done, I started pulling the mash and quickly figured out that huge husks was passing through and was stock at the ball bearing valve, slowing down the flow up to an halt. It was easy...

False Bottom out of Baker's Secret Pizza Pan

So here is my take on a DIY false bottom for the 5 gallons Rubbermaid cooler. After looking at the options, I decided to go with the Baker's Secret Pizza Pan, which can be bought for about 12$ (CAN) and is made of aluminium. I choose it because the holes were already made, it's made of...

    Will it prime?

Thank you for your answers. I read a lot about homebrewing, but never saw anything on that subject.
