    Growing hops question

Question for all you hop growers out there. I'm going to try to grow a couple this year for the hell of it, and had a question. I have a shadow box style fence in my backyard that is 6 feet high. Do you think it would work if I train the vine to go up to the top of the fence and then travel...

    I can read, ...really!

Usually I measure out my hops when I'm making my starter. I put all the hops for each addition in it's own zip lock, marked with a sharpie (60 min, 15min, ect.). Then I just add the correct bag at the correct time during the boil. Hasen't failed me yet.

    vanilla extract

I used 1oz of vanilla extract in a cream ale that I made a couple of months ago. I used it at bottling time. It was a little harsh at first, but after a month in bottles, it got really good. Went from one that I thought about dumping to one I may make again. It was a pure vanilla extract...

I'm brewing the Newcastle clone from Clone Brews tomorrow. Anyone brewed it before?

    Inline valve question

Anyone see a problem using a 1/4" inline valve in 3/16" beer line. I would like a way to shut my taps off on the inside, in case a handle gets pulled on accident (hasen't happened yet, but I see the cat eyeing it everyday). Just wanted to make sure I wouldn't have any foaming problems with this...

    Foaming problem

It seems to be all of the beers, not just the first. I can try a few less psi on the next keg. This one is almost gone anyways.

    Foaming problem

Maybe someone can help me out here. I'm drinking from my first keg, which I have 13psi of CO2 on. I used the set it and forget it method and started carbing it 3 weeks ago. I have 7 ft of 3/16 inch beverage hose and serve through a perlick faucet through a fridge door. I seem to be getting...

Beginner ? about kegging and carbonation

I know that 34 is really too cold. Problem right now is I only have 5' of 3/16 beer line and I'm trying to keep a balanced system. I have some more 3/16 on order, and when it gets here, I'll be raising the temp. Thanks for the input!

Beginner ? about kegging and carbonation

I kegged my vanilla cream ale 5 days ago (my first kegging experience). My fridge is at 34 degrees and I have the pressure set at 12 psi. According to the tables this should result in a CO2 volume of 2.79. I didn't do the shake method, just the hook it up and leave it method. Should 5 days...

    NEW BREWER - cleaning/equipment questions

First of all, welcome. It's nice to see another person from Indiana on here. There's not too many of us. I'll try to answer your ?'s the best that I can, although I'm pretty new myself. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. #1 - The 2oz of bleach sounds more reasonable than the 3/4...

Forgot to take FG before adding vanilla extract.

I was thinking the same thing. Only other reason I could think of getting that high of a FG reading would be that there was some air bubbles pushing the hygrometer upwards. There seeme to be alot of air in the bottling bucket, for some reason that I can't explain. Maybe some escaping CO2...

Forgot to take FG before adding vanilla extract.

I was too excited to get my first keg filled today and while filling my bottling bucket with beer and 1oz of vanilla extract, I realized that I didn't take the FG before adding the vanilla. Anyone have a guess on how much this would change the reading? I got a FG measurement of around...

Making Diet Coke from bag-in-a-box syrup

Just wondering if anyone has done this before. I'm guessing I can just use the 5 to 1 ratio of water to syrup, keg, and force carbonate at 30psi in the keg fridge. Is there anything different about kegging a commercial syrup soda vs. say a root beer extract soda? Thanks for any help!

    Kegging VS Bottling

Just got my CO2 tank delivered yesterday. Put 30psi in the empty tanks to see if they had any leaks. Woke up this morning and there was still 30 psi in them, so I'm good to go. Tonight I will be kegging my Vanilla Cream Ale. I'll probably still bottle a 12pk of 1/2 liter swing-tops per batch.
