    How Bad is This?

I usually am pretty optimistic when it comes to all this, but I think I may actually have ruined a batch of wine. We made a plum wine using 8lbs of plums, a few lbs of sugar, campden, pectin enzyme, tannin, etc. At a week we racked it off of the fruit into glass. Again at a month. It...

    Accidental Carbonation?

Nope, I've made probably 10 batches of beer, a few meads, and a few fruit wines. The airlock was completely clear of any obstruction. My logic when I posted was this. When carbonating beer, you basically just add sugar, and seal. In my mind, the only difference between this and...

    Accidental Carbonation?

Hi all! I have a batch of Apfelwein in primary right now. It was bubbling away for 4 or 5 days. Last night I checked it, and it was no longer bubbling. I took the cap off of the airlock and it shot the little plastic thing inside the airlock all the way up to the ceiling! I took a little...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Obviously I have not aged this enough, but after over 2 months I tried my apfelwein. It basically tastes like nothing. While it may be all the cigarettes I've smoked tonight, it really tates like alcohol with a slight apple juice aftertaste. At about a month, it tasted like a nice white...

    Best website ever!

I've been making beer for only a couple months, but with great results. Just wanted to give props to this website for the wealth of knowledge and motivation it gives to the beginning brewer. What a great community! Kudos! :mug::mug:

    Decribe Your Homebrewing Journey

Excellent thread. My girlfriend lives with a couple hippie dudes, and one of them was really into brewing. I sat around while they were brewing a couple times and finally I was sick of being on the sidelines. Tasted their beers and they were OK. I spent a couple hundred bucks on...

Has this ever happened to you and am I a beer snob?

I am all about drinking good beer whenever possible, but you just can't expect a server at some restaraunt to have the beer knowledge of a homebrewing fanatic that is an active member of a homebrew forum. The only restaraunt I eat at has Saison Dupont and Delirium on tap, and even though the...

If anyone is looking for a good laugh...here you go

A BMC drinker trying a nice beer is not something to be scorned..... If only the rest of that crowd could be so brave.....

This actually isn't all that good

I agree. I've almost been drinking too much with all the homebrew I have in the fridge. It's already been paid for, so whats the use in paying 8 bucks a sixer at the liquor store? EDIT: It is great to have the all important support of the lady.

    Holy Sh it.

I just cracked a bottle of my first brew ever. Some random recipe with a few specialty grains, 1 lb honey and a sh it-load of brown sugar. After the flood in Fargo, these had about 2 extra weeks in the bottle, and they.are.amazing! I don't toot my own my own horn, but I am blown away...

    Apfelwein..Top 5 things I learned...

I've heard yuppies is term used by broke un-motivated folk to reference successful folk. Just a thought.

    Chard?

So, I know that apfelwein is supposed to age several months, but I tried a sample after about 1 month. No apple whatsoever, just tasted like the most buttery chardonnay ever. Yuck! 2 weeks ago, this tasted great, but the last couple weeks have really brought out some butter in int...
