    Woo Hoo! Hops are up in RI!!

    My cascades in Newport are up too. My three plants have about eight shoots apiece, and the tallest shoots are about two feet already!

    hops poppin' in jersey!

    My Cascades have about 2 or 3 inches of new shoots popping out of the ground. Planted 'em last spring but got no cones last year. Hoping for a first crop this year.

    Brewing a Helles - Protein rest?

    I've seen this in places but am ignorant as to the reason for it. Just brewed a Helles by using one of Jamil's recipes, and he calls for a 60 minute boil. What advantage does a 90 minute boil offer, aside from an extra 30 min to enjoy a HB?

    Obama Beer

    I brewed a DFH India Brown clone with some Nugget hops on President's Day. Was gonna call it Big Brown Nugget, but my brother wants me to call it Big Brown President. Brooklyn had a beer called Hop Obama. Discontinued.

    Red Ale

    Seems like your proportions might be off. Do you mean 1/4 oz cara pils? Also, I would bump up the percentage of two-row. Color now might be a deep mahogany, and your ABV is going to be light.

    Well, the issue is now moot. Since I now own a turkey fryer, I'm heading outside to use it. Probably will speed up the process too as my stove took forever to boil 7 gallons of wort.
