    First batch

I have a gallon of juice and a gallon of cider going for almost 2 weeks and they both are still going to town (bubbling away). I added a cup of corn sugar to each and split a package of Noddigham Ale yeast.. Is 2-3 weeks fermenting about right? I plan on 2nd ferm for about 2 weeks prior to...

Fermentation can take 24 to 72 hrs to show visible signs.

Thanks for the replies guys.. I did the flashlight thing last night and it looked like there was about an inch of foamy stuff on the sides of the bucket above the beer line, so assume it is doing it's thing.. I will take a gravity reading in a couple days to see what's what.. Thanks again..

What kit should I buy to start brewing?

As stated, try and locate a local Brew Supply store near you. I am a newbie like you and have only brewed 2 batches so far. If you don't have a BSS near you you can use the internet. The 1 I got for X-Mas is The Brewers Best Premium Kit that was onsale for $90. It has all you need to start...

O.K. so it has been almost 72 hours (about 68 to be exact) and nothing from the airlock yet. I know. I read that the airlock bubbles are worthless for the most part, but I am a newbie and can't understand logic...:drunk: This is my 2nd batch. 1st is about 10 days old. 1st batch is an...

Beautiful night to brew in illinois!

Yeah, I have a few friends that are big into snowmobiles and tried talking me into 1 for a few years now.. I was on the fence and then quickly jumped off. Basically no snow here in 2 years so a good choice. They have to drive up to Northern Wisc or the U.P. to use them dam things. I am fine...

    Newbie Brewbie

Well, since the temps plummeted here in Chi-Town for the 1st time here in like 2 years, I have no worries on fermenting my current batch too high anymore. Temp on the bucket went from 70 to 66 overnight upstairs. And will drop a couple more after tonight as well probably. But I opened the vent...

Beautiful night to brew in illinois!

Brewed yesterday here in the SW burbs when it was near 50 outside...:ban: Fired up the smoker too. In January in Chicago.. :rockin: Only had a couple of dustings of snow just before Christmas..Parents live about 150 miles away near Galena and had a couple 12 in. plus snow falls but we only...

Cool. I will probably 2nd ferment the American pale ale (just to see) and single ferment the Light Ale. Let them sit in the bottles for about 3 weeks before refrigerating. So I assume 69-70 is good for ferment temp with the yeast I listed. I think their web said 65-72 for that yeast is the...

    Newbie Brewbie

Thanks for the quick and to the point responses. :mug: For both my brews now fermenting, it was Lallemand Danstar Ale Yeast. Hopefully the 69-70 it has been fermenting at the last 5-6 days isn't too high. From what I read it should be fine... I think I will move the batch i just brewed...
