    need some help with Star Anise

    Anyone have any ideas to mellow out the licorice flavor from star anise? I brewed 6 days ago and just took a sample, the licorice flavor is still really strong. I added five stars with 15 minutes left in the boil.

    Another Porter post.

    Thanks for the feedback, I'm just steeping the grains. (Haven't gradutated to AG yet...) Yooper, I'd like to sub something for the biscuit, would a victory malt work? Definitely glad I got the feedback on the Black Patent.

    secondary fermentation question

    I brewed last Saturday and had a gravity reading of 1.070, which was exactly what the recipe called for. I took another reading on Wednesday of 1.034, the recipe said my final gravity should be around 1.018. I took another reading today at 1.034. Will going to secondary fermentation help with...
