New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Awesome! Thanks so much for the detailed response. I will follow your fermentation temp schedule for sure. Great to know you've never had any diacetyl issues. This will be my second crack at the style and my first time using a Conan-ish yeast strain. My last NEIPA used WLP 644 and I liked that...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I just picked up some WLP 095 Burlington Ale, which I believe is White Labs version of Conan. Anyway, I'm brewing up my next attempt at this style over the weekend. I'm hoping to hear from anyone who has used this. What did you do to keep the diacetyl in check? I'm a little concerned because...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Thought I'd share this. Just took advantage of a killer deal on some hops that have been talked about quite a bit on this thread. Buy three 8oz packs and get 8 oz of citra free. http://www.yakimavalleyhops.com/product_p/hopsvarietysuperstar3-8oz.htm

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Wow. So glad I found this thread. So much good info on this style! Here's a NEIPA I brewed with WLP 644 sach trois. A 3.5 gallon batch with 2 row, wheat and crystal 10. Falconers Flight 7 Cs during the boil. Dry hopped with citra, cascade and FF. Fermented at 78-80 degrees to get those tropical...

    Has anyone brewed a NEIPA?

I got one kegged right now brewed with White Labs wlp 644 sach trois (the one that used to be classified as a brett strain). I fermented around 78-80 degrees to get those tropical fruit esters. Omega sells it under the name Tropical IPA and Imperial as "Citrus IPA." Plays really well with the...

    Low Full Volume Mash Gravity

I also do no-sparge brews and my refractometer is my best friend. If my pre-boil gravity is low I'll hit it with some DME or extend my boil if it's just a little off. Good to have pre-boil readings and an insurance policy (DME) when you are dependent on the crush of your LHBS.

How does a cooler mash tun work?

I'm with hamiltont on this one. I used Don Osborn's website to build my mash tun for less than 30 or 40 bucks and it's been a champ. High fives to the guys who can afford to all the nice stuff, but this is cool too, and fun to build. http://www.donosborn.com/homebrew/mashtun.htm

Question - modified biab or convert my 5 gallon cooler?

I went from using a bag in my cooler to a conversion. It's this: http://cruisenews.net/brewing/infusion/page1.php Super cheap, easy and improved my efficiency. Honestly, I just went with the minor upgrade because I got tired of holding the spigot button down :) That's not my actual...

    2011 Rogue Double Mocha Porter

Haven't even heard about this, but I'm a huge fan of the mocha porter. Can't wait! I hope it makes its way to AZ.

Pitched Notty at 80F - what should I expect?

Wish I could help you there. I've never brewed a beer with that high of a gravity. Mine has an OG of about 1.045. However, last time I used nottingham, (1 gallon all grain parter) the noticeably active fermentation lasted about three days, but I didn't hit my target gravity for a week or more...

Pitched Notty at 80F - what should I expect?

Hot damn. Less than 48 hours and the active fermentation really slowed down. Yeasties really ripped through it. I'll probably take my first gravity reading in a week or so, but I've never had such a fast aggressive fermentation.

    Broken Fridge = Fermentation Chamber?

Awesome! So I'm definitely going to go with the frozen bottle method until I can either fix this fridge or buy another for cheap. Thanks for the replies guys. I'm going to freeze some bottles and see how many I need to get the temp right.

Pitched Notty at 80F - what should I expect?

Whew! That's a load off guys. I know it was at least five hours before becoming active. Thanks for the replies. I will give it an extra week in the primary just to be sure.
