Ok to cork screw type wine bottles?

I wasn't on planning on carbing the cider but, you're right Wade, not worth the risk. I wonder if there is less chance of broken glass injuring someone if they use something like this (http://tiny.cc/32kh0) remove the cork. I have one and both hands are on the tool with the bottle standing on...

Ok to cork screw type wine bottles?

Hi group, I thought I would try using wine instead of beer bottles for my cider this year. I picked up a good number of bottles from a local restaurant but about two-dozen or so are twist off type bottles. Can I use the bottles? While I have your attention, please feel free to suggest a type of...

Backsweetening with Pressed Apple Cider (Juice)

The main body is 100% pressed. I tasted it before moving to secondary and it seemed to not have much "apple flavor". I have two batches, so I'll probably backsweeten one and carb the second.

Backsweetening with Pressed Apple Cider (Juice)

Hey Group, I'd like to backsweeten my cider with some apple cider. It looks like a lot of folks us apple concentrate. I have some left over cider from the pressing that I've had in the freezer. Would there be any issues with using it? I was thinking of adding Campden and sulfiting it when I do...

    bottling time.

Snuffalupagus- Do you backsweeten with the apple juice concentrate or use it to carb? I have 5 gallons of cider I'd like to backsweeten with some apple juice from the pressing. Should this be ok if I add campden and sorbate. I never added campden or sorbate to the juice, so am a little...

Backsweetening cider with frozen sweet cider

Good point. I'll add 1 or 2 cans of concentrate.

Backsweetening cider with frozen sweet cider

Right. I will add Potassium Sorbate in order to halt fermentation. My question is whether 1 gal of sweet cider is enough to impart the appley taste.

    My first cider

I had a similar experience. Initial SG was 1.065. About a month in SG was at 1.034. It took another month to drop to 1.005 at which point I racked to secondary. I was a little worried of off tastes but it seems to be doing well. What are the SGs people are getting when they rack to secondary...

Backsweetening cider with frozen sweet cider

I'm going to go for still. Would 1 gallon added to 6 gallons be enough to impart apple flavor? I guess I could also add some concentrate but I wanted to stick with as much natural flavors as I could.

Backsweetening cider with frozen sweet cider

Apologies in advance. I know this has to have been asked before but I couldn't find anything. I just racked 6 gal to secondary and am starting to think about how I want to finish the cider. After tasting it before going into secondary, there seems to be very little "apple" flavor. I have 1...

    Head space?

I had a similar amount of head space in my last cider batch and was also worried. I added some anti-foaming agent that I picked up at my LHBS. It kept the foaming down to a minimum. Yuri is right though add a blow-off just in case.

Small orange like pieces floating in cider

I think your right. I racked to secondary today and the pieces that floated down to bottom looked just like lees.

    Whats too long in carboy?

Any idea what that stuff is? I have something similar in my cider. The pieces look like little orange pulp pieces.

Small orange like pieces floating in cider

Hi group, I'm about 2 months into primary fermentation. A few weeks ago I noticed some orange pulp resembling pieces floating in the carboy. I've tasted the cider since and it seemed ok. Has anyone ever come across this or know what this stuff may be? The pieces resemble the pic in the...
